| Obong Nsima Ekere, Former Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State |
When His Excellency, Sir Nsima Ekere, KJW, ventured into the politics of the state some two decades ago, it's not lost on the Akwa Ibom landscape, the air and rivers that a political trojan had arrived the tuff.
Obong Nsima Ekere is undoubtedly the most titanic of all the contenders and pretenders jostling to succeed Governor God's will Akpabio in 2015. His towering political profile and intimidating machinery are the products of a fertile mind, a strategic thinker who sees politics as an engagement which calls for cerebral calculations and wits.
In his over two decades of political activism, he has warmed his personality into the hearts of Akwa Ibomites and today, his name rings a bell in Akwa Ibom state like that of nationalists who fought for the nation's independence from colonial rule. After announcing his presence on the political tuff some two decades ago, and the slip that followed in the build up to the 2006 PDP governorship primaries, he was spotted as a strategic mind, the kind of mind that would demonstrate what political scientists have beautifully theorized in books. Thus, Governor Akpabio and the party apparatchiks picked him as the deputy governorship candidate of the party in the 2007 elections until the last minutes rapprochement and horse trading in the party to accommodate the outgone governor, Obong Victor Attah, when he was asked to drop and as a loyal member of the party, he complied with the party line unconditionally. He's later appointed to anchor the industrialization drive of the present administration as Chairman of AKIIPOC and MD of Ibom Power Company.
In the build up to the 2011 elections, Governor Akpabio still found a partner he needed to team up with him to pilot the affairs of the state. As deputy Governor of the state,he deployed his boundless energy and resourceful intellect to the affairs of state. Overwhelmed by his capacity to deliver, the Governor made him an acting Governor while he's on leave. He never engaged in any act of treachery or disloyalty against the boss, He remained a loyal servant and never outshone the master until some evil men ganged up to use the state legislature to rubbish him out of the government with a view to truncating his future political ambitions. But as a ever smart and vigilant gentleman, he proved too wise and sophisticated for his traducers. The rest, as they say, is history.
Central to Nsima Ekere's political motivation is the passion to serve humanity and the people of the state in particular. It was the passion to serve that that's seen in him that gave birth to the clamour for him to run for the governorship of the state in 2006. He gave a good account of himself and came fourth despite the fact that he joined the race less than three months to the primaries.
As an accomplished professional with impeccable track record, he's proven to be a vision and purpose oriented politician. He's not a desperate man who is out to do anything, including pulling his fellow men down, just to actualize his ambition. His loyalty and commitment to the the party is unquestionable. While some desperadoes are busy jumping the gun, breaching the party and INEC guidelines on campaigns, he's been quietly prosecuting his ambition without infringing on any law.
As the countdown to the 2015 gubernatorial election in the state draws nearer, Nsima Ekere is on the move again. His candidacy has received widespread endorsement all over the state. The people are waiting to exercise their franchise so that the man who knows their plight, the man who feels it as they do will be voted into office to occupy the Hilltop Mansion. With all the aspirants jostling for the governorship seat so far only him has evolved a well defined blueprint on job creation to curb the massive unemployment, crime and further develop the state. His vision and blueprint is a study in Morden developmental politics and it'll be in the best interests of the state to ensure that the people of the state vote him into power come 2015. His passion for service will surely take the state to greater heights
