Obong Essien Esema, Senior Special Adviser to Governor of Akwa Ibom State of Nigeria on Petroleum Matters has appealed to Akwa Ibomites in the Diaspora to partner with government for the development of the state and the nation.
Speaking on the opening day, Friday, July 11, of the 2014 National Convention of UbiumDevelopment Association USA, Inc., Obong Esema said that the Akwa Ibom State Government is determined to create an enabling environment for private investment in the state.
“The Akwa Ibom State government is committed to evolving relevant policies that will create the necessary conducive environment for private investment in the region, especially on Public Private Partnership (PPP) initiative.
“I am sure that with your collaboration and our joint commitment, we will transform our dear state,” said Esema, who reviewed progress with economic opportunities in Nigeria since 2009.
According to Obong Esema, who stressed the need for members of the Diaspora to give serious consideration to investment in Nigeria, economic opportunities for prospective investors abound in the finance sector, commerce and industry, healthcare, education, tourism and transportation, agriculture, as well as the oil and gas sector.
The three day national convention held at the Clarion Inn in College Park, MD, starting on July 11 on the theme, “Working Together to Make A Difference for All,” will end on Sunday, July 13, 2014
Those in attendance, who are expected to speak on the second day of the convention, were Udom Inoyo, Executive Director, Mobil Producing, Nigeria Unlimited (MPN), Dr. Etuk Samuel Idem, Executive Director, Mount Zion Health Center, Calabar and President of Ubium National Congress, Calabar, Inyang Umoh, retired Miami City Police Director and President/CEO of Solutions International, Dr. Asuquo Inyang, a York, PA, based Cardio-Thoracic Surgery specialist, and other prominent indigenes of Ubium from the US, Europe, and Africa.
The 2014 national convention highlights include a charity fundraising dinner under the chairmanship of the distinguished Professor Ekwere Peters, who was the holder of the Frank W. Jessen Professorship in Petroleum Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin, where he was a faculty member for over 31 years. He is currently a senior consultant at Afren Resources USA, Inc.
