IKOT AKPATEK-IKWE-ODIO ROAD REVISITED

WHERE THEN IS JUSTICE?

For 13 good years the people of Ikot Akpatek, Ikwe and Odio communities has been going through pains for neglect of NDDC Contractor who was contracted to construct IKOT AKPATEK-IKWE-ODIO ROAD awarded since 2002. All effort to persuade the Contractor, Worldwide Technologies Ltd and NDDC Management to leverage the affected communities by completing the road construction was in futility. Several appeals and SOS has been written to NDDC and Akwa Ibom State government to intervene, yet it hasn't yielded any positive result. The people of the three communities have lost over 6 lives at ITOKU BRIDGE alone and property (cars, motor bikes, food stuffs, building materials, etc) worth millions of Naira has been lost to the same bridge. Market women has lost their goods and wares to the high current of water passing ITOKU BRIDGE especially during raining season.

The children and pupils of Odio and Ikwe cannot go to the only nursery school at Abat due to the current of water at the same bridge. The market women sometimes go naked in crossing the fast running water to sell their goods at URUA EDEREBO, the only market closer to them. The youth and elders have make several appeals for Akwa Ibom State government to at least construct a paliative at ITOKU BRIDGE for people to have a smooth crossing while they continue to wait for NDDC pending when they decide to revisit the road project but all have falling on deaf ears. But as it is today, information reaching us has it that a new budget of N322 billion has been approved for NDDC in 2014 budget. The question is: WHEN WILL ODIO, IKWE AND IKOT AKPATEK HAVE JUSTICE?
ITOKU BRIDGE DURING RAINING SEASON

When will the people of this three communities feel the dividends of democracy in the present democratic dispensation? It is worthy to note that the three communities has supported PDP government from 1999 till date with massive votes which has given the party victory during election. Odio which is the headqaurter of Ward 5 Central in Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State is a major player in the resources that is used to developed other areas. Odio is the only community that put Eket Local Government Area in the Oil Map of Akwa Ibom State and deserves better treatment. As at today, there is no single Inter Ministerial Direct Labour Project in Odio while other communities has gotten double. The question resurface again, WHERE THEN IS JUSTICE?
ODIO VILLAGE

We can't continue to keep silence while the people are going through pains. Government of Akwa Ibom State and NDDC Managing Director, Chief Bassey Dan Snr must respond to this act of injustice with urgency by re-awarding a new contract for the construction of IKOT AKPATEK-IKWE-ODIO ROAD to a competent contractor who knows the terrain of that area. Those communities deserves better treatment than what they got now. ODIO COMMUNITIES MUST NOT KEEP SILENT. WE WILL CONTINUE TO RAISE ALARM WHEN NECESSARY. ALL WHAT WE NEED IS GOOD ROAD, ELECTRICITY AND WATER.

LET JUSTICE BE DONE.

AKWA IBOM CHILD RIGHTS LAW

The Akwa Ibom State Child Rights Law The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Obong Godswill Akpabio, on 5th December, 2008 signed the child rights act into law to protect the growth of perceptual, emotional, intellectual, and behavioural capabilities and functioning during childhood of Akwa Ibom children under 16 years.
