Chairman, Senate Committee on Women Affairs and Youth Development and Akwa Ibom State gubernatorial hopeful in 2015 general polls, Senator Helen Esuene in a media chat with the members of the Akwa Ibom State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Uyo revealed that NTA 35, Eket will soon commence broadcast.
According to her, the station which has been almost forgotten for years will soon come on air following her constant agitation in the National Assembly in the last three years which prompted 2014 budget to be allocated to the station for the purchase and installation of the needed equipment for the smooth take off.
She also lauded Gov. Akpabio for following the infrastructural development template laid down in the state by his former boss and predecessor, Obong Victor Attah in transforming the state. However, she was optimistic that Akpabio’s successor will perform better, since he will only be adding blocks to the already laid blocks of development that will sustain and as well consolidate the present uncommon transformation in the state.
Mma Esuene as fondly called, passionately lauded the Akwa Ibom State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists for demonstrating maturity and responsibility on their day to day reportage. She urged members of the NUJ to remain focus and determine in the cause of projecting developmental journalism as the possible way to promoting peace and exposing evil activities that has the power of jeopardizing our 15 years old democracy in the state and at national levels.
Senator Helen Esuene while fielding questions with journalists confirmed that she is fit and ready for the forth-coming gubernatorial polls in 2015. She promised to maintain a good working relationship with the members of the fourth realm of the estate when inaugurated in May 29, 2015 as the first female executive governor of the state.
She pointed out that the creation of employment to the youths of the state through the establishment of industries, is at the front burner of her administration. Senator Esuene refuted the rumour milling around that her gubernatorial aspiration is a negotiating process for her to grab the second term bid to the National Assembly. According to her, Eket Senatorial District before now had made an unwritten and mutual agreement and understanding which she must honour.
The senatorial district is made up of three federal constituencies: Eket, Oron and Ikot Abasi; had later agreed to take turns in serving two terms each. She noted that Senator Udo Udoma had represented Ikot Abasi between 1999 and 2007, while Senator Eme Ekaette field in the first term for Eket in 2007and she will be completing Eket’s second term in 2015. So, it is obvious that Oron must take their turn.
Senator Esuene stressed that even if she cannot make it to Hilltop Mansion, she cannot run for Senate under any circumstances. She revealed that she wish the two terms turn serving senators in the federal constituencies of Eket Senatorial District to continue without any interruption.
Meanwhile, the NUJ chairman, Elder Patrick Albert earlier in his address thanked Senator Esuene for setting pace in the creation of employment opportunities to the youth of the state through her business empire that is rated second after ExxonMobil in the employment creation.
He pointed out that NUJ is ready to identify with any aspirant, especially those that are recognizing the worth of the press in Akwa Ibom State.
