THE SCHOOLS

The schools are located in Ediene-Abak, a serene and academic- friendly suburb in Abak local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. Tower of Ivory Schools (Elementary and Secondary), which take less than ten minutes drive from Uyo, the State’s capital, offer competitive training to young people whose parents/guardians desire first class education. the schools tower above every other in structure, in philosophy and in work force. The state of the art academic blocks, deluxe hostels, a multi-purpose built ampitheatre (Godswill Hall), and functional instructional/learning gadgets are scenes to beholds.

THE HISTORY AND PHILOSOPHY

The Secondary Schools section was established in September, 2010 with 24 pioneer students while the Elementary section came on board in September 2011 with 80 pupils. Today, the student population is 250 while the population of the Elementary schools stand at 350 pupils. the founding fathers of this great institution have in mind the idea of building an entirely new generation of young men and women who believe firmly in the virtues of hardwork and sound moral principles.

Tower of ivory, as the name implies, typifies a conscious effort to give our educational system a human face, instead of the past system which appeared not so development-friendly. Properr education has to be humane, functional and holistic. the school is concieved as a cynosure, a thing of beauty, a reference point and an educational standpoint in region.

BOARDING FACILITIES

The Boarding campus is located along Abak -Uyo road, Ediene-Abak,  Abak LGA,  about 15 minutes from Uyo metropolis. Its quiet, peaceful, and academic friendly environment allows students to properly focus on their studies without any form of distraction, and achieve their respective potentials.
Student Palaces: Our palaces are fully air conditioned,  equipped with beds, mattresses,  and lockers for the storage of personal items. Each palace is also equipped with tastefully furnished common rooms, each with a controlled DSTV system installed.

Godswill Akpabio Hall: The Godswill Akpabio Hall serves as the schools’ dining hall. The air conditioned hall is very spacious and adequately furnished  for the comfort of the students while they enjoy a variety of nutritious continental and African dishes.

SAFETY AND SECURITY

At TOIS, the security and well being of our students and pupils is of utmost importance to us. For this reasons a number of steps have the employed to ensure that each child is adequately protected. These steps include:
  • Well trained and equipped security guards that patrol the schools’ perimeter both day and night
  • Installed Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras, each equipped with Forward Looking Infrared (FLIR) systems across the schools’ campus.
  • Installed fire alarm system in each palace and other facilities, along with fire extinguishers.

DIG Ekpoudom
Udom Udo Ekpoudom was born on the 24th May, 1953 into the family of Chief Udo Ekpoudom of Uruk Ata Ikot Ebo in Etim Ekpo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. He attended St. Micheal Primary School, Midim, Abak (1958-1964), Queen of Apostles Serminary, Afaha-Obong, Abak (1965), and the Holy Family College, Abak where he completed his secondary education (1970) and Higher School education (1972). In 1974, Udom ekpoudom gained admission into Nigeria’s premier University, University of Ibadan and gradutated in 1977 with a Bachelor of Science (Hon.) degree in Political Science.
Having successfully served the nation (NYSC), Udom ekpoudom enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and after the one-year Cadet ASP training at the Police Staff College, jos, he was posted to Plateau State Command in 1979 where started his Police Career. in the course of his career in the Nigeria Police Force, Udom U. Ekpoudom serdved in many challenging and demanding positions, amongst which was a stint as Deputy Force Education Officer. throughout his public service career he demonstrated uncommon discpline, diligence, hard work and dedication to duty and these qualities earned him merited elevations up to the rank of Deputy Inspector general pf police in the Force.
Udom U. Ekpoudom also attended a good number of professional courses, seminars and conferences both within and outside the country. Some of the courses attended include the Junior Command Course, Advance Detective Course, Intermediate Command Course, and Senior Command Course. He also attended the Strategic Studies course at the National War College (now National Defence College), Abuja, and is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police USA (IACP), and the National Association of Black Law Enforement Executives (NOBLE). Udom Ekpoudom also holds a Masters of Science degree in Strategic Studies and a Masters of Arts degree in Peace and Conflict Studies, both from the University of Ibadan.
Prince Udom U. Ekpoudom, the Chairman of the Board of Governors of Tower of Ivory schools, retired voluntarily from the Nigeria Police Force in December, 2010. He is happily married to Lady Dorothy U. Ekpoudom, and is blessed with children and grand-children. 

LADY DOROTHY UDOM EKPOUDOM

A retired Director in the Federal Civil Service Commission, and a registered Professional teacher, Lady Dorothy holds the positions of the Board’s Chairman and the Coordinator of Schools. Lady Dorothy Ekpoudom has 30 years teaching experience having worked in a number of institutions including the Government Teachers College Nasarawa, and Community Secondary School, Iva Valley, Enugu. She was made the Head of the Science Department at Ado Girls Grammar School, Onitsha, Anambra State in 1991 and rose to the rank of Principal III. She was also made the pioneer Principal of the Police Secondary School, Calabar, in 1993 till 1998 were she was credited for a number of developmental strides, including the composition of school anthem currently used nationwide in all Police schools. She later headed a number of Police Primary Schools, including those situated in Port Harcourt, Uyo, and Calabar. She later appointed as the pioneer Head of the South-East Zonal Inspectorate from 2003 till 2008 with its Headquarter located in Owerri, Imo state, and later went on to become the Head of the South-South Zonal Inspectorate in charge of all Police Primary and Secondary schools located within the geographical region, a post she held before voluntarily resigning in 2010.
Lady Dorothy Ekpoudom has a National Certificate in Education from the College of Education Uyo. She also holds both a Bachelor of Education Degree (B.Ed.) in Biology and a Masters of Education Degree (M.Ed.) from the University of Jos, and is an alumnus of the Administrative and Staff College of Nigeria, Badagry. She chaired a number of women organizations, including the Police Officer’s Wives Association branches in Ogun, Bayelsa, and Delta to name a few, and has also served as a coordinator for Zones 5 and 6 of the same organization. She is a Jerusalem pilgrim and is currently an active member of the Christians Women Organisation (C.W.O), and a lady of Knight of St. John International of the Catholic Church .

ENGR. EBONG UDOM EKPOUDOM

Engr. Ebong Udom Ekpoudom was born on the 3rd of April, 1981 into the family of DIG. and Lady Udom Udo Ekpoudom. Educated at Queen of Apostles Seminary, Afaha Obong, Akwa Ibom State (1993-1995) and Police Secondary School, Calabar (1995-1998), he proceeded to the University of A do – Ekiti (now Ekiti State University) were he obtained a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering. Having served as a youth corper in the mandatory National Youth Service in Rivers State, he later proceeded to the United Kingdom were he obtained a Masters of Science Degree in Wireless Communication Systems from Brunel University, Uxbridge, and a second Masters of Science degree in Business Management from the Brunel Business School of same university.
Engr. Ebong has served in a number of engineering firms, including Globacom Limited were he worked as a Base Station Subsystem/Transmission (BSS/Tx) Engineer and Ag. Field Service Manager for Taraba State. He later joined TOIS project as a Project Manager were he was instrumental in the engineering, construction, and commissioning of most of the schools’ infrastructure (civil, HVAC, power, telecommunications, and security). He currently serves as the Director of Administration and Projects, and sits on the Board of Governors as it’s secretary.

 MRS. THERESA LINUS EKON

Mrs. Theresa Linus Ekon is a seasoned educationist, and astute school administrator, and currently serves as the Permanent Secretary of the Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development. She was appointed to the board on February 2010. Her academic career began in 1979 as a teacher with a number of secondary schools within Akwa Ibom State. She was made the vice Principal of Community Secondary School, Four Towns, Uyo from 1991 till 1994. She was then promoted to the rank of the Principal (Special Grade) in 1994, and served in this capacity for a number of schools, particularly the Holy Child Girls Secondary School, Ifuho, Ikot Ekpene, were she was known for her outstanding contributions. She later rose to become the Director of Education in the Akwa Ibom State Education Board in 2005.
Mrs. Ekon obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Botany from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. She also holds a Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) in Education and a Masters of Science (M.Sc.) in Science Education from the University of Uyo. She is a devoted Christian, a leader, and has been noted for her humanitarian service that has touched the lives of several young people. She has been noted for her immense contribution to educational development in Akwa Ibom State, and is currently a UNESCO Justice of Peace.

PROF. NATH. C. OHAZURIKE

B.Sc, M.Sc, PhD
Professor Nath Chukwu Ohazurike is a distinguished academic with a number of academic honours and laurels, and an extensive list of academic and learned journals published in America, Europe, and Africa. He has supervised several students at both M.Sc and PhD levels, and had equally served as an external examiner at these levels for more than ten Nigerian Universities. He was appointed to the board on February 2010.
Professor Ohazurike started his academic career at the Alvan Ikoku College of education, Owerri in 1980 were rose to the rank of Principal Lecturer and Coordinator of the Special Science Programme in 1993. He then joined the service of the Imo State University in 1996 as a Senior Lecturer, and rose to the rank of Professor in 2002. Till date, he has been a sitting member of the University’s Senate and the Chairman and member of a number of Senate Committees and Panels. He was also the pioneer Head of Department of Crop Science and Bio Technology from 2001-2007 and Coordinator of the University’s Endowment Fund Project from 2001-2007. He has served as consultant and Environmental adviser to Shell Petroleum Development Company (S.P.D.C).
Professor Nath Ohazurike holds a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria’s premier university. He also obtained both a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree and his Doctorate degree from the University of Port-Harcourt. He was the Dean of the Post Graduate Studies School of the Imo State University, and is currently the Dean of the same University’s Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine. As an devoted catholic Christian, he is a Knight of St. Mulumba, Nigeria, and has been honoured by the Catholic Church in several circumstances.

PROF. SETH ACCRA JAJA

HND, MBA, PhD
Professor Seth Accra Jaja is a retired Police Officer and currently serves as a lecturer with the RSUST. He was appointed to the board on 13th February 2010. Prior to his career in academics, Professor Jaja served with distinction as an Officer of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) were he held a number of positions, first as a Unit Commander of No. 3 Squadron of the NPF’s elite Mobile Police (MOPOL) Force, and later on as the Commandant of the Police Training School, Enugu, Divisional Crime Officer, Command Education Officer, Rivers State Police Command Deputy Provost Marshal, Force Education Department Editor, and Principal Staff Officer (PSO) to the Inspector-General of Police at the NPF’s Force Headquarters, Abuja.
As an accomplished academician, Professor Jaja began served as a lecturer with the Anambra State University of Technology. He later joined the services of the Rivers State University of Science and Technology were he rose through the ranks to become a Professor of Management in 2009. While with the RSUST, he was a sitting member of the University’s Senate and served as a member in a number of committees. He is also an External Examiner to a number of Universities, including the University of Port Harcourt, Abia State University, and the Niger-Delta University.
Professor Jaja holds a Higher National Diploma (HND), a Masters in Business Administration Degree (MBA), and is a Doctor of Philosophy in Management. He is a fellow of several reputable professional bodies, including the Chartered Institute of Administrators and the Institute of Corporate Administration of Nigeria. He is also the founder of the Accra Jaja Education Foundation in 2002, which caters for the needs of the less privileged. He brings into the Board Governors a rich experience in administration, public service, security, and commitment.

DR. DONALD BETTE ENU
B.Sc, M.Ed, Ph.D
Donald Bette Enu PhD is a University Lecturer, a Consultant and a Facilitator of knowledge. A ’95 B.Sc (Ed) 21 Graduate of Political Science, University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, he also holds an M.Ed and PhD in Curriculum Studies with a deep bias in Social Studies from the University of Calabar in 2001 and 2006 respectively.
Donald joined the services of the University of Calabar in 1998 as a Graduate Assistant and at the moment he is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Curriculum and Teaching. He has taught courses both at the graduate and undergraduate levels ranging from Curriculum and Instruction, Curriculum Development and Evaluation, Socio-economic Development, Community Development and Organization, Environment and politics, Human Development, Ethics and Values and Moral Education and Global Education. He has been a coordinator of many programs in the Department.
Donald’s current research interest is on Global Education with specific focus on peace education, globalization, values and moral education and Development education. He is the author of Teaching Environmental Education in Formal and Informal settings published in 2005. His is also the author of Selected Issue in Global Education published in 2007. Donald has to his credit more than 25 articles published in National and International Journals.
He is a member of some professional organizations such as the World Council for Curriculum and Instruction (WCCI), Nigeria Chapter, Curriculum Organization of Nigeria (CON), Social Studies Teachers Association of Nigeria (SOSTAN). Donald is also a sustained members of Academic staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the Immediate Past President of the Rotary Club of Hilltop, Calabar. He has been nominated for various awards and honours in the areas of Professional Service, Community Development, and Extra-ordinary Service to humanity among others.

REV. FR. JOHN BOSCO EKANEM

Rev Fr. John Bosco Ekanem, a committed and exemplary Priest of the Roman Catholic Church and lover of education, is a member of the Board of Governors of the Tower of Ivory Schools. He acquired his education from St Charles School Ukana, Queen of Apostles Seminary Afaha Obong, Abak, and Marianum Philosophy Seminary Afaha Obong all in Akwa Ibom State. He also attended the Bigard Memorial Seminary Enugu, The University of Serra Leone, the University Of Nigeria, Nsukka and the Catholic University Of Leuven, Belgium. He has a Diploma in Philosophy, Bachelor of Divinity, Diploma in Integral Studies, A Post Graduate Diploma in Education, Masters Of Arts in Social and Cultural Anthropology and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) In Social And Cultural Anthropology.
He served at various positions both as a parish priest and educationist: Assistant Lecturer in the Catholic University Of Leuven Belgium, Lecturer in the St Joseph Major Seminary Ikot Ekpene, Vice Rector of the St Joseph Major Seminary and the Chairman of the Assessment and Promotion Committee of the Seminary. An erudite scholar, author of several books and researcher, he has been a visiting lecturer of the Catholic Institute of West Africa (CIWA) since 2004. He is a member of the International Association of Legal Anthropologist (Canada) as well as The International Commission on Folk Law and Legal Phiralism (Canada).
He brings into the Board of Governors, an invaluable treasure of sound Catholic and Christian teachings with moral values. He is expected to assist in the provision of pastoral and spiritual care for the students.

Mr. Uduak Effiong Ekwere

Principal Secondary IMG_20140708_125623 Mr. Uduak E. Ekwere is an educator and administrator whose teaching experience spans over twelve (12) years. He hold a National Certificate in Education from………and a B.Ed. in Government/Social Studies from the University of Uyo in 1997. As a seasoned educator, Mr. Ekwere has taught in a number of schools, including igbo-Gambari High School, Lagos, St. Christopher International Schools, Nung Oku,  Scripture Union Schools, Uyo, and Learners’ Field International Schools, Abak. As a pioneer staff of Tower of Ivory Schools, he has held a number of Teaching and managerial positions.  He currently serves as the Principal of the Secondary School section.

Mr. Joseph G. Essien

Vice Principal – Administration

Mr. Joseph Essien is a native of Ikot Ambang Ibiono,  in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. He holds a National Diploma (ND) in Financial Studies and a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Accounting from Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic (2003 and 2006 respectively)  and a PGDE from the University of Uyo. Mr. Essien is also  a registered teacher with the National Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (NTRCN). He has worked in a number of financial institutions as an Accounting Officer,  and has equally taught Accounting and Business Studies. As a pioneer staff of TOIS, Mr. Essien served as the schools’ first Bursar, and later rose through the ranks to serve as the Head of Department – Social Sciences. He currently serves as the Vice Principal – Administration.

Mr. Iberedem B. Daniel

Mr. Iberedem B. Daniel is a native of Abak Local Government Area. He holds a B.Sc. (Hons) in Applied Chemistry from the University of Uyo, and a Certificate in Data Processing from the Nigerian Christian Institute,  Uyo. Mr. Iberedem is a member of the Nigerian Institute of Safety Professionals (N.S.E Level 2), and has equally taught in a number of schools. He currently serves as the Vice Principal-Academics.

Ms. Udori Eno

Ms. Eno Udori is holds B.A in Anthropology from the University of Ibadan (2005). Proficient in Social Studies and Civic Education, she is involved in mentoring young minds, especially in imbibing a reading culture as well as developing their innate eloquence.

FEE STRUCTURE

The Fee structure is provided to every bona-fide student of the college. This is subject to change at reasonable intervals. As partners, Parents/Guardians will be duly informed well ahead of time.

PAYMENT OF FEES

All fees must be paid before the commencement of each term (kindly consult the academic calendar for the session). Payment can be made by any of the following methods:
  1. School’s Bank account.
  2. Certified bank cheque from a reputable bank being payable to TOWER OF IVORY SCHOOLS.

PAYMENT OF FEES IN FULL

Parents/Guardians who wish to pay the year’s fees in FULL will be exempt from any subsequent increase in the school fees during the year.

AKWA IBOM CHILD RIGHTS LAW

The Akwa Ibom State Child Rights Law The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Obong Godswill Akpabio, on 5th December, 2008 signed the child rights act into law to protect the growth of perceptual, emotional, intellectual, and behavioural capabilities and functioning during childhood of Akwa Ibom children under 16 years.
