UDOM FULFILLS BIRTHDAY PROMISE
-Donates 200,000 desks and exercise books
The Secretary to the Akwa Ibom State Government, Mr Udom Emmanuel has donated 200,000 exercise books to primary and secondary school students in the state as part of activities to mark his 48th birthday. The books were part of educational materials including 200,000 desks obtained as gifts from friends of the SSG on his birthday. Six schools that took their turns to benefit from the donation of the books with 1,000 copies each on Monday were, Qua Iboe Church Group School, Awa Iman; Community Secondary Commercial School, Ikot Akpan Ishiet; Community Secondary Commercial School, Ikot Ebiere in Onna Local Government Area; Independent High School, Ukana, Essien Udim; Primary School, Ata Obio Akpa Abak and Idagha Secondary School, Nung Oku Uruan.
The Acting Headmaster of QIC Group School, Awa Iman commended Mr Udom Emmanuel for having school children at heart while marking his birthday. He explained that the gesture shows that he was poised to support and further the free and compulsory education of Governor Godswill Akpabio.
At Idagha Secondary School, Nung Oku, the Principal of the school, Mr Etebong Akpasoh offered insight to the fact that were enveloped with joy over the gesture of the SSG, explaining that the exercise books will go a long way in enhancing the students’ academic endeavour. He prayed God to bestow blessings upon Mr Emmanuel and give him success in other endeavour.
Earlier, while delivering the books on behalf of the Secretary to the State Government, the Chairman, Board of Trustees of the Transformation Initiative, Akparawa Ephraim Inyang noted that the SSG’s decision to donate 200,000 exercise books to schools in the state was a modest gesture to mark his 48th birthday, stressing that the SSG was not interested in celebrating his birthday in a grand style but rather decided to channel the resources in acquiring exercise books to assist the students academically
