United States Ambassador James F. Entwistle paid a courtesy call on Kano’s new Emir, Malam Muhammadu  Sanusi II on Tuesday, July 8, 2014.  The Ambassador offered his personal condolences and that of the United States Government to the people of Kano on the passing of the previous Emir, Alhaji (Dr.) Ado Abdullahi Bayero, (Emir from October 22, 1963 to 6 June 2014, when he died) who played a very large role in the life of the current Emir.
Ambassador Entwistle also used the occasion to update the Emir on the broad and close U.S.-Nigerian bilateral relationship.  “Everywhere I go in this magnificent country, I am impressed by the friendship and partnership that our two countries share.  On every subject and every topic, the United States and Nigeria are already doing noteworthy things together as two great democracies,” he enthused.
Ambassador Entwistle noted that the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is playing a vigorous role in the U.S.-Nigeria partnership.  He cited the agency’s work in health activities such as the struggle against polio and HIV/AIDS, and the links it has created between rice growers and the mill in Kano, among other parts of the country, as examples of the positive accomplishments of United States’ partnerships with Nigeria.
He also cited successes in educational linkages between Nigeria and the United States as another example of the dynamic relationship.  “As we speak, 48 young Nigerians, including three bright fellows from Kano are among 500 fellows from across Africa participating in President Obama’s Young African Leaders Initiative, YALI.” 
The Ambassador talked about U.S. support to Nigeria for the 2015 elections and his message to Nigerians encouraging non-violence in the electoral process. “I’ve been asking politicians to publicly take a pledge that they will not advocate, foment or condone violence before, during or after the election, he stressed.”
Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II thanked Ambassador Entwistle for the visit and commended the U.S. Government’s contributions to the growth of the rice paddy chain in Kano, started during his tenure as Governor of Nigeria’s Central Bank.  He also praised U.S. commitments and support to Nigeria on security and advise to politicians for peaceful and credible elections.

The Akwa Ibom State Child Rights Law The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Obong Godswill Akpabio, on 5th December, 2008 signed the child rights act into law to protect the growth of perceptual, emotional, intellectual, and behavioural capabilities and functioning during childhood of Akwa Ibom children under 16 years.
