Economic Development Commissioner Rewards Outstanding Staff
Twenty four staff of the Ministry of Economic Development went home with various gift items recently when the Commissioner for Economic Development, Mr. Ante Okwong fulfilled his promise to reward staff that performed outstandingly during the internal examinations written by staff recently on the public service rules.
Those who went home with the items were those who scored seventy five percent and above in the first examination and sixty percent in the second examination.
Among the overall best ten for the two examinations taken so far, Mr. Victor Okon Edet, a Principal Planning Officer and Head of Programme Monitoring Department came first, followed by another Planning Officer, Mr. Lawrence Obu Udo while Imaobong Alexander took the third position.
Others who made the overall top ten on the list for the two examinations were Mr. Imo Udo, Mr. Utibe Etuk, Mr. Monday Idio, Mrs. Lucy Senam, Mr. Friday Amiang, Mr. KufreAbasi Afangideh and Mrs. Ime George.
Speaking at the award event, the Commissioner for Economic Development, Mr. Ante Okwong congratulated the staff for distinguishing themselves during the internal examinations and charged other staff to emulate them and take the public service rule as an indispensable document in other the serve the system from collapse. The Commissioner expressed optimism that the efforts of the Ministry towards raising officers who are well vest with the service rules and the rewards would go a long way to motivate the staff to be more productive.
Represented by the Director of Administration in the Ministry, Mrs. Ekanem Albert Attah, he also admonished staff to maintain the hierarchy in the service by giving senior officers their deserved respect, noting that it takes diligence, patience and hard work to become senior officers.
Mr. Okwong said his Ministry will not relent in its ministerial mandate and promised to continue to develop the economic blue print of the State and ensure implementation consistent with best practices. He commended Governor Akpabio for his deliberate strategy in showcasing Akwa Ibom and her potentials to the world.
Responding on behalf of the awardees, the Head of Programme Monitoring Department in the Ministry and the overall highest scorer for the two examinations, Mr. Victor Edet thanked the Commissioner and Ministry for appreciating excellence, stating that the award would serve as a motivation for them and other staff as well as help them not only to be more acquainted with the public service rules but to discharge their duties according to the rules.
