SENATOR HELEN ESUENE – SENATOR, AKWA IBOM SOUTH SENATORIAL DISTRICT
Chief (Mrs.) Helen Udoakaha Esuene belongs to the rare breed of achievers for whom no epitaph can adequately describe in one breath. Her giant strides and exploits in various fields of endeavours stand her out as an icon worthy of emulation. She is, undoubtedly, a model and an inspiration to the women folk, an exemplary leader and an astute entrepreneur, an influential motivator and contributor to her immediate community, a key player in local, national and international issues. Above all she is a humane, God fearing Christian, a Philanthropist whose largesse has touched and indeed changed the lives of so many people. Chief (Mrs.) Helen Esuene’s life can be encapsulated in one word – Service Above Self.
Chief (Mrs.) Helen Esuene was born on 23rd November, 1949. She is from Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. She attended the Cornelia Connelly College Uyo, Federal Training Center Kaduna and University of Leicester, United Kingdom. She obtained WASC (Division one), HND Secretarial Studies and M.Sc.
Chief (Mrs.) Helen Esuene has 17years experience in the Civil Service from 1968 when she became the First Lady of South Eastern State. Her Civil Service Career took her through the Executive Cadre to the Administrative cadre in 1977. She voluntarily retired in 1985 for private enterprise but was found worthy to provide greater service to her state and nation at various levels as:
• State Organizing Secretary, Better Life for Rural Women Programme.
• Chairman of the Board of Akwa Ibom State Commission for Women.
• Member, Political Reform Conference 2005.
• Honorable Minister of State for Health 2005.
• Honorable Minister for Environment 2006-2007 and the first Minister of Environment, Housing and Urban Development 2007-May,2007.
• Member of the National University Commission (NUC) April, 2009 to date.
This great Woman of substance, candour and humility has at various times provided service at social and community levels as:
• Member, Board of Governors, Mobil Pegasus School.
• President, Rotary Club of Eket.
• Vice president, International Christian Chamber of Commerce, Uyo.
• Facilitator U-15 Boys and Girls National Soccer Tournament 2002-2007.
• Founder and Facilitator of Esuene Foundation.
• Member, Board of Directors, Uforo Community Bank.
• Member, Board of Directors, Champion Breweries.
• Member, Board of Directors Plasto-Crown Nigeria Limited.
This illustrious Woman is the larger provider of employment in Akwa Ibom South Senatorial District with total employment capacity of 300 staff which cut across not only the Senatorial district but the State and the Nation. She is:
• Chairman/CEO, Villa Marina Limited
• Chairman/CEO, Grafen Enterprise Limited.
The above companies are involved in the provision of hospitality as well as oil and gas related technical services.
Chief (Mrs.) Helen Eseune has provided succor to the needy, motherless and widows. She has provided about a 100 scholarship awards for students in tertiary institute within and outside the State from 1997 to date.

• Best Youth Sport Organizer, National Association of Primary Schools Games and Sport Teachers-2004.

Her Excellency has attended courses in Leadership, Public Finance, Personnel Management, Risk Management, Labour Relations and Change Management among several others.
