Eagle Builders Foundation presents MALALA DAY 2015
Malala Day is an important day to raise awareness and to
help girls realize their right to education. It is a day set aside by United
Nations Global Education First Initiative to support Pakistani education and
right activist, MalalaYousafzai. It is a day to raise your voice in support of
girl child education and government to invest more in education. Every child
has the right to education. It is fundamental to all other development. Despite
this right, 126 million children remain out of primary and lower secondary
school around the world with Nigeria having the highest number of 10.5 million
out-of-school children followed by Pakistan with 7 million. Of this number, 65
million are girls while there are 250 million children in school
who are not learning due to lack of a quality education. It is also reported
that some countries lose more than $1 billion a year by failing to educate
girls at the same level as boys.
To us in Eagle Builders Foundation, we are of the opinion
that every child deserves free and qualitative education especially in Nigeria
in line with an Act of the National Assembly of 2004 which was assented to by
OlusegunObasanjo led administration. But after the Bill was passed into law,
governments at different levels have been very reluctant to implement the UBE
Act. It is on this premise that we are launching national advocacy campaign for
the full implementation of UBE Act 2004 with the NIGERIA EDUCATION FIRST
INITIATIVE and GIRLS NEXT GENERATION Project by calling on policy makers,
government, donor agencies, institutions, philanthropists, activists, human
right lawyers, youth, women, media, etc to sign-in for the full implementation
of the Act to give every Nigerian child equal access to education. MALALA DAY
is one of such campaign as we will gather education stakeholders in Uyo, the
capital of AkwaIbom State to raise their voices for the education of the
girl-child. Highpoint of the event will include Paper Presentations,
Inauguration of State Executive/Chapter Coordinators of Girls Next Generation,
Collection of Signature for the Implementation of UBE Act, presentation of
Certificate of Endorsement as Education First Ambassador to selected
individuals who support or advances the cause of education in Nigeria, etc.
Who is MALALA
YOUSAFZAI?
MalalaYousafzai is an international youth advocate for
