After the gubernatorial race of April 11, 2015 in Akwa Ibom State which Udom Emmanuel emerged the winner, there has been a lot of lobbying on who to be appointed into the cabinet of the Onna born governor. The lobbying took many dimension. From the political leaders in the state to the socio-political groups who were in the field campaigning for the election of Udom Emmanuel as the governor. His friends and associates were not left out. Some were using his contact people including the wife to advance their mission. I can understand the pressure that Udom Emmanuel has gone through in the past two months or thereabout. That was much expected as winning election is not a one man affair but a collective effort which yielded result.
I can't forget in a hurry the numerous articles written in favour of Udom Emmanuel by his close aides especially the upcoming political analysts that permeate our political landscape. All those effort contributed to the success story that we are celebrating today.
In my first open letter to Udom Emmanuel which I don't intend to write him again openly, I made bold to say that for him to succeed, he need to appoint people who will make meaningful contribution to the success of his administration and not people who will use public office to execute ethnic agenda. I made up my mind not to dedicate much time criticizing leaders this year but to make my own little contribution to advance the cause of humanity. I still want to maintain that decision for now until there is an overflow.
I can recalled that his first appointment was greeted with mixed feelings but the lists of Commissioners and Special Advisers which he sent to the State House of Assembly yesterday has elicited a lot of commentaries and reactions. While some sections of the state are jubilating for the appointment of their kits and kins, other sections are mourning expressing total disappointment and feeling abandoned especially considering their input and investment in the success of Divine Mandate Campaign Organization. I am on the known of some people who stood firmly from the onset till the end of the project and denied themselves some conveniences just to defend the mandate of Akwa Ibom people which was anchored on equity, justice and fair play. Such men and women should not be push aside in your administration. The people of Eket Senatorial District and in particular Eket Federal Constituency deserves a better deal in contributing their quota to ensure that their son succeed in office.
Appointment of aliens who do not have close link with the people will spell doom for Udom's administration as there will always be dividing interest in discharging of responsibilities and execution of projects to the benefits of all. I am aware that selfish interest caused some local government not to have a good representative but like the immediate past National Chairman of PDP, Dr. Adamu Muazu stated in the build-up for 2015 Presidential Election that the election should not be a case of ''monkey dey work, baboon dey chop.'' I want to passionately appeal that all segment of the state should be considered in sharing of political positions for equity, justice and fair play which Divine Mandate Campaign Organization was anchored on. There is no area that has the best qualified people for political offices in the state and as such every section should be treated equally. Though the prerogative to appoint people into cabinet reside with the governor but he need to revisit the list to accommodate all sections especially those who carry the project at the bottom of their heart. When you succeed they will celebrate you as charity begins at home.
