ANNOUNCING THE AKWA IBOM EMERGING LEADERS 2015

Ibom Youth Hall of Fame (IBYHOF) in partnership with Black Heritage Publication proudly announces the 2015 Akwa Ibom Emerging Leaders (AKIELEAD) Fellows. These Fellows represents Akwa Ibom’s most promising emerging leaders with the courage and commitment to lead and shape the future of our state. The Fellows were chosen by IBYHOF Selection Committee through a highly competitive selection process and criteria based on their outstanding leadership skills, community service accomplishments and commitment to the advancement of Akwa Ibom State.

These exceptional leaders no doubt represent the new face of Akwa Ibom Promise. At their individual efforts, they have demonstrated the will and capacity to use their personality, talents and abilities in pursuit of excellence in their endeavours. They have shown others their inert strength through hardwork, commitment and creativity, the power of individuals to seek the betterment of society and influence the future of Akwa Ibom State positively.

The 2015 AKIELEAD Fellows represent the I CAN DO SPIRIT of an average Akwa Ibom person and bring their diverse backgrounds combined with multi-disciplinary academic and professional experiences and aspirations. The Fellows are already actively making positive impact at all levels of individual endeavours and put the name of Akwa Ibom State in good light. From entrepreneurship, music, science, technology, political participation, innovation, art, etc, they are a new generation of Akwa Ibom youth leaders ready to provide the bold and inspirational leadership needed to lift the state to its rightful place in Nigeria. 

Below are the 28 selected Akwa Ibom Emerging Leaders to celebrate their effort in commemoration of 28 Anniversary of Akwa Ibom State Creation and they will be inducted into the Maiden Edition of IBOM YOUTH HALL OF FAME 2015. They are:

From over 73 Nominations that were received, the Ibom Youth Hall of Fame Selection Committee has settled with these 28 Fellows who will become part of the growing community of a new generation of Akwa Ibom Emerging Leaders. We truly admire and acknowledge the courage and commitment of all the other Nominees who couldn’t make it to the final lists, we look forward to collaborating with them in future programs as we strive to create opportunities for our young people to be responsible and global impact in their future endeavours.

The AKIELEAD Fellows will converge in Uyo for the Induction Ceremony on September 25, 2015 as part of the 28th Anniversary Celebration of Akwa Ibom State. The Induction Ceremony will be preceded by a One Day Capacity Training Workshop for youth in the state on leadership, entrepreneurship, education, team building, etc to gain knowledge on cutting-edge issues critical to youth development in Akwa Ibom State.

The AKIELEAD Fellow Program is a uniquely designed initiative by Ibom Youth Hall of Fame committed to the long-term leadership development and promotion of Akwa Ibom most promising young people designated to build skills, strengthen networks and support youth leadership on critical development issues. It is a project that strives to engage, inspire, and equip young people of Akwa Ibom origin to become the next generation of leading politicians, activists, development experts, social entrepreneurs and change agents who can transform the state through their activities and programs.

ABOUT US          
Ibom Youth Hall of Fame (IBYHOF) is a project initiated by Black Heritage Publication to annually recognize, celebrate, encourage and project the positive contributions and effort of Akwa Ibom youth both at home and the Diaspora who are making a difference and contribute positively to the society. It is a platform design to bring families, friends, neighbourhoods, etc together to see, acknowledge and celebrate the best effort of our resourceful youth. Ibom Youth Hall of Fame is aimed to recognize excellence and outstanding achievements. It is a project to showcase to the national and international community outstanding youth achievers in Akwa Ibom State and build a legacy for future generation.
IBYHOF serves to recognize 25 outstanding individuals age 20-40 years who exemplify the best attributes of their state’s best individual. It seek to accord recognition to youth in Akwa Ibom whose dedication to their profession or life undertakings has resulted in exceptional achievements in the form of significant contribution to the progress and welfare of their community and to the advancement of their respective fields of endeavours and by extension bring pride to the state.

The IBYHOF is an award that gives recognition to young people for their spirit of perseverance in their efforts to better themselves as well as their community, state and nation. It also serves as an encouragement for individual to persevere in their dreams of improving the quality of life and those around them inspite of the difficulties and challenges they encounter.

The significance of IBYHOF is to attempt to open up young people mindsets that most times they will have painful experiences, a thorn of flesh but with patience and perseverance, their effort will bear useful fruits. It is also a platform that seeks to recognize young people of Akwa Ibom origin who have overcome and may still overcome obstacles in their lives to be where they are today.

MISSION
To honour by public acknowledgement those Akwa Ibom Youth who merit recognition and distinction for their exploits, accomplishments and leadership in all field of human endeavours. It is a project aim to share the stories of our youth and their contribution to state and nation building.
OBJECTIVES
1.       To identify and celebrate the effort of Akwa Ibom youth who have made significant achievement and contribute positively to the society.
2.       To promote the good image and identity of Akwa Ibom youth at the local, state, national and international arena.
3.       To provide future generations with exemplary citizenship role models.
4.       To encourage excellence in career and individual endeavours.
5.       To encourage and inculcate the spirit of patriotism among young people and promote the community service.
6.       To bring Akwa Ibom youth together for the task of state and nation building.



IBOM YOUTH HALL OF FAME INDUCTEES
Akwa Ibom has a wealth of talented and knowledgeable youth who have made their mark at the national and global stage. In order to recognize their significant contribution, Ibom Youth Hall of Fame is established to honour these young men and women and also inspire, motivate and encourage others. The Ibom Youth Hall of Fame Inductees are celebrated youth personalities drawn from all fields of human endeavours.
Annually, 25 outstanding youth achievers will be selected and inducted into Ibom Youth Hall of Fame and the 25 youth are selected from the following fields: Business, Economic and Entrepreneurial Achievements; Political, Legal and Government Affairs; Academic Leadership and Accomplishment, Environmental, Human Rights, Scientific and Technological Development; Sports, Medical Innovation, Personal Improvement; Media and Creativity; and Cultural, Humanitarian and Voluntary Leadership.

SELECTION CRITERIA
The Ibom Youth Hall of Fame recognizes noteworthy youth achievement in service to their community and nation. It is created to recognize and reward Akwa Ibom youth whose significant commitment of time and energy has impacted others in a beneficial way. In honouring Akwa Ibom youth achievers, Ibom Youth Hall of Fame serves as a beacon of hope and inspiration to present and upcoming youth in the state.

Criteria for Nomination and Induction into Ibom Youth Hall of Fame:
1.       Nominee must be between age bracket of 18 and 40.
2.       Must have influenced on great events in and out of the state.
3.       Must have served humanity and the society positively.
4.       Must demonstrate high level of integrity and willingness to serve as role models for others to emulate.
5.       Must have excelled in their chosen career and individual endeavours.
6.       Must be Akwa Ibom citizen by birth.
7.       Must be willing to promote the ideals of Ibom Youth Hall of Fame which are excellence, unity and progress.

NOTE:
·         All nomination must include a covering note explaining why the nominee is worthy of being inducted into the Ibom Youth Hall of Fame.
·         All selected finalist will submit their photographs and profile to be publish in the Ibom Youth Hall of Fame Souvenir Magazine, The Trail Blazers.
·         Nomination is not paramount to selection. Persons nominated will be placed in a pool for consideration by the Selection Committee. Every nominee is carefully scrutinized and must receive at least 80% approval of the Selection Committee and Board of Trustees before being inducted.
·         All nominees are selected on merit devoid of sentiments.

THE INDUCTION CEREMONY

The Ibom Youth Hall of Fame Maiden Induction Banquet will be held on 24 and 25 September, 2015 at Emerald Event Centre, Uyo by 10.00am. The Ceremony will be preceded by an Induction Lecture with the topic: THE ROLE OF YOUTH IN NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT.

SENATORIAL DISTRICT TOUR BY THE INDUCTEES

The Ibom Youth Hall of Fame Inductees will tour the three Senatorial District of the State at selected venue that will be attended by youth leaders and students representatives from each of the local government areas that make the Senatorial District. Highlight of the Tour will include Business and Entrepreneurship Discussion, Personal Life Experience by Inductees, Talk Show, Paper Presentation by Resource Persons, etc. The Senatorial District Tour will be organized quarterly during the one year reign of the Inductees as Ibom Youth Ambassadors. The Senatorial District Tour (SDT) will be a two days event and will be fully funded by government, philanthropists and corporate organizations.

IBOM YOUTH HALL OF FAME FOUNDATION

As part of our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), the Ibom Youth Hall of Fame Foundation will make annual grants to encourage and support youth development efforts and programs that address challenges and opportunities especially on undeserved communities. The focus areas are education, health, arts, writing and small business.

SUPPORT IBOM YOUTH HALL OF FAME

The Ibom Youth Hall of Fame (IBYHOF) believes that the Inductees are people with individual ideals, morals and views that are very fundamental to the promotion of our state pride. They are the one who strives for and achieve greatness in their career and individual endeavours. Because of this, the Ibom Youth Hall of Fame is dedicated to not just recognizing and showcasing their potential and talents but giving back to the community that have offer them opportunities to excel in life.

The Ibom Youth Hall of Fame will support a number of community events including seminars, youth forums, workshops to address youth related issues and community related concerns. We will also sponsor a number of fundraising events to help raise money for college and university scholarships. We will also sponsor youth-based activities and programs that help promote moral character in schools and colleges.

PROPOSED PROJECT

The Ibom Youth Hall of Fame deems it necessary for a Hall of Fame Center to be built at the State Capital and serves as a State Youth Center. The Ibom Youth Center will consist of the following:
1.      A 2000 Capacity Auditorium
2.      A Museum for Artifacts Collection
3.      An Art Gallery that will adorn the walls with portrait of Inductees.
4.      A Library
5.      An ICT Center
6.      A Board Room and Offices.

AKWA IBOM CHILD RIGHTS LAW

The Akwa Ibom State Child Rights Law The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Obong Godswill Akpabio, on 5th December, 2008 signed the child rights act into law to protect the growth of perceptual, emotional, intellectual, and behavioural capabilities and functioning during childhood of Akwa Ibom children under 16 years. The law protects the Akwa Ibom child from birth to adolescence and up to 16 years such that the child is afforded the necessary protection and assistance so that it can fully assume its responsibilities within the community.
