More commendations have continued to trail Governor Udom Emmanuel over the appointment of a woman of substance, Dr (Mrs) Ime Okon as Caretaker Committee Chairman of Uyo Local Government Area.
While addressing the mammoth crowd that turned up to receive the new Chairman shortly after her swearing-in at the D-Line Park Ewet Housing, the Honourable Commissioner for Housing and Urban Renewal, Prince Enobong Uwah, thanked Governor Emmanuel for his foresight and magnanimity in appointing a woman of proven integrity Head of the Caretaker Committee, describing it as long overdue.
Commissioner Uwah observed that, the Women of Uyo have consistently been at the vanguard of support for the Peoples Democratic Party and have remained a formidable pool of voters whose votes for Governor Udom Emmanuel gave him an edge over opponents during the election.
Prince Uwah said, Uyo women deserve this slot as a reward for their years of unwavering loyalty and expressed confidence that, they will remain steadfast in their support for the Udom led administration in the State, the PDP and the Transition Committee Chairman, so she could deliver dividends of good governance to the people.
Prince Uwah reassured the people of Uyo that, Governor Udom Emmanuel is committed to transforming Akwa Ibom to an industrial hub through his blueprint of five agenda programme and charged the people to rally around the vision of the governor to enable him succeed.
On his part, the Member representing Uyo State Constituency, Hon. Monday Eyo, said that, the appointment of a woman to lead Uyo at this time is a welcome development and enjoined the good people of Uyo to remain loyal to the state governor and extend their support and love to the new chairman so she can succeed.
In her response, the new council boss, Dr (Mrs) Okon thanked Governor Emmanuel for considering and approving her appointment to the position of responsibility. She pledged to serve Uyo people with the fear of God and selflessly and described her elevation as an act of God which calls for humility, sacrifice and service. She sued for support to both the State Government and her Committee from the people and vowed to do her best in moving Uyo forward.
Prince Uwah also presented the other members of the Transition Committee including, Elder Imo Okon who is to serve as Secretary, 5 Supervisors, namely, Akan dominic Oscar, Donatus Edem Udoh, Jospeh Etim, Pastor Ime David, and Ini Udo, while Kufre Mendie and Udeme Asuquo Akpan are to serve as Special Advisers.
Goodwill messages were delivered by stakeholders, elders, youth and women leaders, party chieftains and well wishers, while the women of Uyo colourfully attired in different uniforms and groups danced to celebrate one of their own.
