EKET SENATORIAL DISTRICT YOUTH COALITION CONDEMNS INVASION OF AKWA IBOM STATE GOVERNMENT HOUSE BY DSS
Press Statement
DSS INVASION OF AKWA IBOM STATE GOVERNMENT HOUSE, AN AFRONT ON THE GOOD PEOPLE OF EKET SENATORIAL DISTRICT AND AKWA IBOM STATE
The leadership of Eket Senatorial District Youth Coalition (ESDYC), a network of young people in the twelve local government area of Eket Senatorial District has watched with total dismay the invasion of Akwa Ibom State Government House by men of the DSS. The organization condemn in totality such action in the seat of a democratically elected government without recourse to the rule of law and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. We view such action as an abuse of power by men of the Directorate of State Security and a return to the dark days of military rule.
We are disappointed that the DSS are reported to have acted on intelligence but one full week after the Gestapo action, the authority have failed to publish what was discovered during their operation but allow such an important issue to be sensationalize by a section of the media loyal to APC leaders.
In as far as we do not have any intention to interfere with the Constitutional responsibility of the DSS but we condemn any act of breaking into Government House of any of the federating units in the Federal Republic of Nigeria without following due process. We therefore challenge the Alhaji Lawal Daura led DSS to publish their findings during the invasion of Akwa Ibom Government House so as to put this issue to rest.
For the avoidance of doubt, we want to state here categorically that Udom Emmanuel was duly elected by the good people of Akwa Ibom State during the April 11 general election which he won with a landslide victory and was duly sworn-in on May 29, 2015. Since assumption of office, he has remain No. 1 citizen of Akwa Ibom State and the Chief Security Officer of the state and therefore should be accorded all the rights and privileges as enshrined in the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Udom Emmanuel is a proud son of Eket Senatorial District and any clandestine ploy to embarrass, humiliate and intimidate him in office will be strongly resisted by the youth of Eket Senatorial District and indeed the entire Akwa Ibom people in general. We hereby warn that all the campaign of calumny by a segment of the media and recruited agents on social media platform should stop henceforth as the youth of Eket Senatorial District will not fold their hands and watch their son and leader being humiliated for no just cause.
As a responsible organization with the core mandate to protect the interest and people of Eket Senatorial District, we call on President Muhammadu Buhari to call the Director General of DSS, Alhaji Lawal Daura to order before he plunge the country into a sectional entity. We are strongly in support of Mr. President anti-corruption crusade and advise that the campaign should not be selective and targeted at opposition camp especially PDP controlled States.
Signed:
UBONG DAVID
