UYO SENATORIAL DISTRICT HONOURS OBONG PAUL EKPO, AKWA IBOM STATE PDP CHAIRMAN

By: Essien Esema.

For his contributions to the socio-economic well being of the country, his exemplary performance in the public service in general and as the State Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Obong Paul Ekpo, The state Chairman of PDP was on 28th September, 2015 honoured by his people of Uyo Senatorial District as the Trustee of the Uyo Senatorial District Leaders Forum (USDLF). This new accolade apparently derives from not only Obong Paul Ekpo’s role as a former commissioner and member of the state executive council under Chief Godswill Akpabio, CON; but more for his feat in enthroning the present PDP Government in Akwa Ibom State in spite of the wind of change that was blowing ferociously across the country.
Obong Paul Ekpo and Rt. Hon. Prince Peter Atakpa

Speaking while conferring the honour on Obong Paul Ekpo on behalf of the people of Uyo Senatorial District, the Leader, Rt. Hon. Prince Peter Ekpe Atakpo, observed that though there are about three Trustees already in the Forum, there was still a feeling of void without adding Obong Paul Ekpo to the Board of Trustees of USDLF. He said the exercise was merely an overdue event “to give honour to whom it is due”. He described Chief Ekpo as a most dedicated public servant, an accomplished technocrat and an indefatigable achiever. Speaking earlier, the General Secretary of the Association, Obong Essien Esema informed the gathering about the activities of the forum and its achievements since inauguration on Thursday 12th March, 2015 by the State Governor. He opined that the Association stands for the unity, peace and progress of Uyo Senatorial District. “It is a platform for democratic expressions of the voice of the people based on justice, equity and fair play”. He congratulated Obong Ekpo over the PDP’s landslide victory in the state at the last general elections and pledged the support and loyalty of the Forum to Governor Udom Emmanuel’s Administration.

In his response, Obong Paul Ekpo thanked the people of Uyo Senatorial District for their unflinching support to and love for all PDP candidates in the last general elections by voting en-mass to ensure their successes at the general elections. The State PDP helmsman used the occasion to assure the Uyo senatorial District people that there is no cause for alarm over the impending elections at the Gubernatorial Elections petitions Tribunal in Abuja as elections are not worn through propaganda. He emphasized that there are many justifiable reasons why Mr. Udom Emmanuel should be entrusted with the mandate as governor of Akwa Ibom state. Apart from being the PDP candidate, his performance and many accomplishments in the past three months in office evidently justifies our continued support to his administration. He called on the leaders and Elders of Uyo Senatorial District as loyal party men to rededicate themselves to the cause of Peoples Democratic Party in the state.

The event was attended by a cross section of Uyo Senatorial District Leaders and elders including Sir (Dr.) Val Attah, Otuekong Ralphael Bassey, Hon. Barr. Christine Akpan, Obong Israel Utit, Chief Inyang J. Eno; Obong Kingsley Peters, Elder Inyang Ekoriko, Obong Ukpong Dan Umoh, and Chief Clement Ekot. Others in attendance were Arc. Ibanga Ema, Mr. Udofia and Dr. Roberta Edem.

AKWA IBOM CHILD RIGHTS LAW

The Akwa Ibom State Child Rights Law The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Obong Godswill Akpabio, on 5th December, 2008 signed the child rights act into law to protect the growth of perceptual, emotional, intellectual, and behavioural capabilities and functioning during childhood of Akwa Ibom children under 16 years. EFREN PENAFLORIDA - SOCIAL WORKER AND TEACHER

Efren’s Penaflorida – Social Worker and Teacher Efren Peñaflorida, Jr. sports no cape. He has no superpowers. You would neither throw him a second glance nor even notice him in a big crowd. There is really nothing special about Efren except his unparalleled dedication to reforming kids in their poverty-stricken community in Cavite, Philippines.Efren Peñaflorida, Jr.’s sanity was questioned when people first saw him going around the neighborhood pushing his improvised cart loaded with food, books, paper, pencils, and other things you would commonly see in a classroom. Why, Efren goes around the neighborhood pushing a mobile classroom to peddle the love for education. He left his well-paying job as a private school teacher to devote all of his time and effort to his Kariton Klasrum project while his neighbors mock him.To make matters worse, his parents and brother did not see the point in his earnestness to get out-of-school youths interested in going back to school. For a family s...
