COMMUNIQUÉ BY MEMBERS OF TRANSFORMATION INITIATIVE FOR THE
EMPOWERMENT OF IBOM PEOPLE (TIEIP) IN NIGERIA AND THE DIASPORA AT THE
END OF A ONE DAY RETREAT HELD AT IKOT EBIERE IN ONNA LOCAL GOVERNMENT
AREA ON THE 21ST NOVEMBER, 2015.
Preamble
The Board of Trustees, Caucus, National Executive Committee, Thirty-one (31) Local Government Chapters in Akwa Ibom State and representatives of Cross River, Rivers, Bayelsa, Lagos, Abuja Chapters and other Chapters of TIEIP in Diaspora (United Kingdom and Francophone Chapters) attended a one-day Retreat. During the Retreat, the participants examined issues that are germane in ensuring sustainable peace and development in Akwa Ibom State in particular and Nigeria in general.
During the Retreat, various eminent sons and daughters of the State addressed diverse issues that are crucial to the peace, political stability, development as well as the unity of Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria. These led to the members of TIEIP agreeing that the following key issues should be made public for record purposes and as the guiding principles towards the unity and progress of the group, state and country at large.
i) Leaders and Members of TIEIP acknowledged and deeply appreciated the
giant strides by the current Akwa Ibom State Government under the
purposeful leadership of His Excellency, Deacon Udom Gabriel Emmanuel in
industrializing the State as evident in the revamping of some of the
hitherto moribund industries and laying of foundation stones for new
industries and ensuring improvement in electricity supply to drive the
industrialization policy of his administration.
ii) TIEIP noted with satisfaction the Governor’s intervention in roads in some local government areas but appealed that such gestures should be extended, in the next phase, to local government areas, especially areas which were not attended to by the previous administration.
iii) Members commended the Governor for his efforts in human capacity development as evident in the empowerment of youths and women in agriculture, sponsorship of youths in various specialized skills as well as encouraging indigenous entrepreneurs/contractors through interest-free loans and contracts.
iv) TIEIP Leaders and Members enjoin all well-meaning people of Akwa Ibom State not to sit on the fence but do all they can within the ambits of the law to support the Governor of Akwa Ibom State to make Akwa Ibom State become one of the industrial hubs and investors’ destination in Nigeria.
v) Participants passed a Vote of Confidence on His Excellency, Deacon Udom Gabriel Emmanuel for his outstanding leadership qualities displayed in his prudent and judicious management of the state’s resources for the all-round development of the state that will culminate in the State taking its rightful place in the Country.
vi) Leaders and Members of TIEIP condemned in its entirety the wanton destruction of lives and properties by the terrorist sect known as Boko Haram in parts of the North, especially in Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, Kano States and the Federal Capital Territory, while believing that God Almighty shall surely intervene soonest and bring the insurgency to an end before the end of 2015.
vii) The assembly pledged its unflinching loyalty and support for the Federal Government led by President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR and condemned in strong terms the secession attempts by pro-Biafra groups while affirming its belief in one united and indivisible Nigeria.
viii) TIEIP resolved that its leadership and members at various levels would continue to be resolute in maintaining a high degree of credibility by being committed, transparent and effective in the discharge of assigned responsibilities to attain desired results.
ix) Participants heartily felicitated with the amiable and performing Governor, His Excellency (Deacon) Udom Gabriel Emmanuel and the Peoples Democratic Party for the well-deserved victory at the elections as well the reaffirmation of the victory at the tribunal and pledged to protect his electoral mandate.
x) The forum resolved to continue to dedicate itself to the lofty cause of the organization in line with the Dakkada philosophy of the State Government and stressed that it stands for the unity and harmonious co-existence of all ethnic groups in the State.
xi) Members commended His Excellency, Deacon Udom Gabriel Emmanuel for appointing one our own-the BOT Chairman of Transformation Initiative for the Empowerment of Ibom People, Mr. Ephraim Inyang-Eyen as the Commissioner for Works.
xii) In the same vein, members commended the BOT Chairman for convening the retreat as well as building and successfully dedicating a chapel christened, “Triumphant Chapel” to the glory of God. For these, members passed a vote of confidence on him especially for his effective leadership of TIEIP and his pivotal role in assisting the Governor actualize his infrastructural master plan for the State.
xiii) The meeting emphasized the need for members to be empowered and motivated through cooperatives, life-enhancement packages and logistical supports towards achieving effective coordination and propagation of organization’s activities and goals.
xiv) It was resolved that in order to ease pressure on the BOT Chairman, members should channel their concerns through Local Government Chapters and National Executive Committee Leadership of TIEIP.
xv) TIEIP members from Eket Senatorial District at the Forum vehemently condemned and dissociated themselves from the unsavoury utterances made by a former chairman of Eket Local Government Area, Mr. Aniekan Akpan on Planet FM against the person of His Excellency, Governor Udom Gabriel Emmanuel and the PDP-led State Government and admonished Akwa Ibom politicians to desist from running down our leaders with good intentions for the State as such people do so for their selfish interests.
