BIOGRAPHY OF LATE OBONGANWAN GLORY OKON MBONG AKPANETTE (NEE MFON WILLIE)


                                         AGE: 71 YEARS (1944-2015)

BIRTH AND PARENTAGE

Late Obonganwan Glory Okon Mbong Akpanette was born into Late Chief Willie Akpan Willie of Atung Akpaumo in Atai Ndon and Late Madam Grace Willie Akpan of Atong Unanawo, Atibe both in Afaha Eket Village, Eket Local Government Area.

EDUCATION

Etuk Mfon as she was formally called by then, attended her primary education at Government Primary School, Anin Udua Essien, AfahaEket where she obtained her First School Leaving Certificate in 1957. Then she proceeded to Qua Iboe Secondary School, Afaha Eket for her West African Certificate (WAEC). Madam Glory was very intelligent but due to lack of financial capability she couldn’t move more height in education than this.

MARITAL LIFE

Madam Glory married at a very tender age to Late Chief Okon Mbong Akpanette of Asang Usung Inyang Village in Eket Local Government Area and was bless with Eight Children: Six Sons and Two Daughters.

CHRISTIAN LIFE

Madam Glory Mbong Akpanette was a devoted Christian. She was born into Qua Iboe Church of Nigeria and later change to The Apostolic Church when she got married. Meanwhile, she was a committed member of women fellowship.

COMMUNITY SERVICE/SOCIAL LIFE

Obonganwan Glory MbongA kpanette was very social and accommodative. An active politician and a strong member of The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) both in Ward and Chapter level. She was former Vice President of National Council of Women Society (NCWS), Eket Chapter and Vice President, Qua Iboe Women League (QIWL). These were women groups who collaborated with Afigh Iwaad Ekid to fight for Resource Control and Local Content in area of employment, contract and community development. She was also Executive Member of Uyai Iban, Member, Women in Politics, Exco Member, Ward 3 Urban Women Forum and Member, Atong Akpaumo Women Welfare Association. In Asang Village, she was the wife of the Village Head and also a great woman leader.

DEATH

Mama felt ill barely two weeks before her demise around 8.30pm on the 6th day of June, 2015.

She is survived by sons, daughters, daughter-inlaws, son-inlaws, relatives and a host of other family members to pay her last respect.
