...as PDP Constitution Review Committee sets for inauguration Monday

Rt.Hon. (Barr.) Onofiok Luke excellent record in legislation has stand him out as a strong factor to speak anywhere, anytime.
Following this, the Akwa Ibom State Governor Mr. Udom Gabriel Emmanuel has nominated the lawmaker who represent the good people of Nsit Ubium State Constituency in Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly Rt. Hon (Barr) Onofiok Luke to represent the state in the party's Constitution Review Committee.

This reporter gathered that the committee is to restructure the party into a more formidable one, pending future political/leadership courses and fresh innovative ideas that will aid the party achieve its set goals come 2019.



1.  Profile of BARR. ONOFIOK LUKE – MEMBER, AKWA IBOM STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY

Onofiok Luke was born on March 16, 1978 to Mr. and Mrs. Akpan Luke in the present Nsit Ubium Local Council of Akwa Ibom State. Onofiok attended St. Theresa Primary School, Use Abat in Ibiono Ibom and Lutheran High School, Obot Idim and obtained admission to study Law in the University of Uyo, Uyo in 1998 where he was elected President of the Student’s Union Government in 2002.

As a student Union President, Onofiok was suspended by the University authorities for leading a peaceful protest against an increment in school fees but was later recalled to complete his studies in the university from where he graduated with a degree in law.

After the requisite post graduate education at the Nigerian Law School, Onofiok was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2010. He was appointed as Personal Assistant to the Governor on Protocol Matters by his Excellency, Chief Godswill Obot Akpabio (CON) in 2007; a position that placed him with the enormous responsibility of coordinating the governor’s hectic itinerary.

Onofiok represented Akwa Ibom State in the inaugural Nigeria Youth Parliament where he was elected as the first speaker of the Parliament in which capacity he represented Nigerian at various international youth events including the World Youth Summit in Mexico in 2010.

In his capacity as the first speaker of the inaugural Nigeria Youth Parliament, Hon. Luke has held and been granted audience by numerous national and international personalities from the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, The Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, State Governors, the Minister for Youth, and President Advisers.

At the expiration of his tenure as Speaker of the Nigerian Youth Parliament in 2011, Onofiok contested and won election to represent his Local Nsit Ubium Constituency as a legislator in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly. From his days in student activism where he has elected as the speaker of the West African Students Parliament, Onofiok has continuously held critical legislative positions at various levels in civic society including earning a historical spot as the first ever Speaker of the Nigerian Youth Parliament.

As s state legislator, Onofiok’s legislative interests are primarily focused on youth development, education, sport/talent development and tourism. In the State House of Assembly, Onofiok is actively involved in creating and supporting legislation that will economically assist indigent and physically challenged youths; increasing educational opportunities for talented youth from single parent homes, and increasing access to micro funds for women entrepreneurs, especially widows, and women in the rural areas of the state among other numerous people oriented legislative activities.

In his first term as member representing Nsit Ubium in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon. Luke was a member of various House Committees including Advisory on Parliamentary Matters; Public Accounts, Judiciary, Justice and Public Petitions. Others include Health, Agriculture and Natural Resources, Economic Development, Youth, Sports and Security, Environment as well as Deputy Chairman, House Committee on Education.He was re-elected by the good people of Nsit Ubium to represent them again at the State House of Assembly due to his superlative performance in his first term in office. Though the seat was fiercely contested but he defeated other contestant as the people of Nsit Ubium including women, youth and the elderly rose up to defend the mandate that was given to Hon. Luke justifying the confidence they have in his representation.

Onofiok has donated a significant amount of his time and resources to assist various individuals and organizations in need. Within the limited resources available to him, he has settled medical bills for economically challenged families and individuals, provided start-up capital for enterprising but impoverished persons, and provided scholarships for gifted students from poor backgrounds among other humanitarian gestures.

In late 2011, Onofiok decided to take a more formal approach towards channeling his resources to the use of the greater good by establishing and providing start-up endowment for the Akpan Luke Legacy Foundation, named in honour of his late father who inculcate the values of selfless giving early on in his life. The Akpan Luke Legacy Foundation aims to identify and support Akwa Ibom youths especially from his Nsit Ubium Constituency who have exhibited by visible actions and measurable impact.

Onofiok is a 2009 Associate of the Prestigious Nigeria Leadership Initiative, a globally recognized think-tank of outstanding Nigerian youths.  Luke is married to his campus sweetheart, Uduak and their marriage is blessed with children.

The Akwa Ibom State Child Rights Law The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Obong Godswill Akpabio, on 5th December, 2008 signed the child rights act into law to protect the growth of perceptual, emotional, intellectual, and behavioural capabilities and functioning during childhood of Akwa Ibom children under 16 years.
