EKET SENATORIAL DISTRICT YOUTH LEADERS MEET, CALL ON AKWA IBOM STATE GOVERNMENT TO INTEGRATE THEM IN THEIR PROGRAMS

COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE END OF THE EMERGENCY MEETING OF EKET SENATORIAL DISTRICT YOUTH LEADERS FORUM (ESDYLF) HELD ON SUNDAY DECEMBER 06, 2015 AT GTI HALL, UYO

The youth leaders in Eket Senatorial District under the aegis of Eket Senatorial District Youth Leaders Forum comprising of youth organizations cutting across the 12 local government areas of Eket Senatorial District met on Sunday December 06, 2015 in Uyo wherein it thoroughly considered the political development in the country and Akwa Ibom State in particular. After much deliberation on issues bordering on youth empowerment, capacity building, election matters and development programs of the present administration in the state, the Forum hereby resolved as follows that:

Deacon Udom Emmanuel, Governor of Akwa Ibom State
1.    The Youth Leaders in Eket Senatorial District express their heartfelt appreciation to the good people of Akwa Ibom State for voting one of their sons and leader, His Excellency, Deacon Udom Emmanuel to become the governor of Akwa Ibom State. The Forum use this medium to thank all stakeholders (senior citizens, political class, socio-political groups, women and youth organizations, the media, security, etc) for their commitment to the Divine Mandate Project and pray God to reward their effort accordingly.

2.       After a thorough assessment of Udom Emmanuel administration in the past six months in office, we are much convinced that he has exercised his responsibilities creditably as a man with great vision, dedication and competence and therefore deserves commendation.

3.      The governor has embarked on several life touching projects and laudable programs in the state to include reviving of ailing industries, ground breaking ceremonies of new industries in the state and attracting more private driven establishment especially the refinery project located in our domain that will create jobs for thousands of our youth.

4.    The governor is strongly committed to youth empowerment, entrepreneurial and development programs in the state with emphasis on training of Akwa Ibom youth at Oracle, youth in Agriculture in Israel, SMEDAN Training and the recent 200 youth at National Training Institute at Abuja all gearing toward youth Manpower Development in line with his campaign promises and therefore pass A VOTE OF CONFIDENCE on His Excellency, Deacon Udom Emmanuel to continue to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people of Akwa Ibom State without wavering.

5.       The Forum observed that youth leaders in Eket Senatorial District who were prominent and key players in mobilizing their wards and electorates to participate fully in the election which culminated in the emergence of our leader, Deacon Udom Emmanuel had been sidelined in all youth empowerment programs of His Excellency and call for an urgent reverse of this ugly trend.

6.       His Excellency, Deacon Udom Emmanuel should borrow a leaf from his boss and immediate past governor of Akwa Ibom State and now a Minority Leader in the Senate, Sen. Godswill Obot Akpabio, CON who used his good office to empower youth of Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District in his first term in office. We are strongly in support of all inclusive administration but His Excellency the governor should not ignore the fact that Eket Senatorial District which is the goose that lays the golden egg has been marginalized for so long even when the oil that is used to developed and empowered others are drilled in our backyard.

7.  We plead with all our elected and appointed government officials to run an open policy administration and be accessible to the public without compromising the duty of their esteem offices.

8.       We condemn in strongest terms any attempt by our leaders to adopt the “use and dump” approach and will resist strongly the promotion of nepotism by government appointees. The government of Akwa Ibom State belongs to every Akwa Ibom citizen and they shouldn’t be denied access and right base on ethnic sentiments or political affiliation.

9.    We pleaded that government policy and programs should be all inclusive. The youth should be carried along in the design, planning and implementation of those programs so that they will identify areas that are appealing to them for the interest and benefit of the youth.

10.   We request to have audience with all our leaders and stakeholders (political leaders, traditional rulers council, opinion leaders, academic, etc) for effective engagement to fashion the way forward of Eket Senatorial District and to build cordial relationship and mutual understanding of all the twelve (12) local government area for the benefit of the district. A date for this meeting will be communicated to all concern before the end of this year.

11.   We hereby resolved to continue to give our unflinching support to the administration of Udom Emmanuel and all elected/appointed officials of Eket Senatorial District cutting across party line. We will not allow politics to divide our people especially the youth population who are the major players at the electoral field.

12.   We condemn the entrenchment of ethnic sentiment in the state and call the promoters of this devilish to reverse the trend and think about how to unite our people together for the unity, peace and progress of our state.

13.   We will not allow any individual or group to tarnish the image of His Excellency, Udom Emmanuel or any of our leaders both political, traditional, religious or otherwise for whatever reason. We therefore call on the media to be factual in their reportage in line with the ethics of the profession and also urge the Akwa Ibom State Government to be accessible to the media for transparency in governance and for the overall interest of our state.

14.   In case there is any rerun election in the state, the youth of Eket Senatorial District will come out enmasse to the field and mobilize support for Governor Udom Emmanuel as the mandate of the good people of Akwa Ibom State to continue with his lofty programs for the benefit of the people of Akwa Ibom State.

15.   The Forum will convene a larger meeting of all the Youth Leaders in Eket Senatorial District so as to work together in harmony with our Elders, corporate bodies and the government. The Forum resolved that as productive and energetic as the youth are, we will not relent effort until our leaders fully integrate the youth of Eket Senatorial District into the policies and programs of the present administration.

AKWA IBOM CHILD RIGHTS LAW

The Akwa Ibom State Child Rights Law The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Obong Godswill Akpabio, on 5th December, 2008 signed the child rights act into law to protect the growth of perceptual, emotional, intellectual, and behavioural capabilities and functioning during childhood of Akwa Ibom children under 16 years. The law protects the Akwa Ibom child from birth to adolescence and up to 16 years such that the child is afforded the necessary protection and assistance so that it can fully assume its responsibilities within the community. Child development becomes notable from the emergence of speech at one to two years of age. 2 to 7 years is early childhood where the child uses symbolic thought and language to manipulate their environment. 7 to 12 is late childhood and marks the beginnings of logic, involving the classification of ideas and an understanding of time and number. 12 up forms development of empathy, the ability to appreciate the feelings and perspectives of others. EFREN PENAFLORIDA - SOCIAL WORKER AND TEACHER

Efren’s Penaflorida – Social Worker and Teacher Efren PeƱaflorida, Jr. sports no cape. He has no superpowers. You would neither throw him a second glance nor even notice him in a big crowd. There is really nothing special about Efren except his unparalleled dedication to reforming kids in their poverty-stricken community in Cavite, Philippines.Efren PeƱaflorida, Jr.’s sanity was questioned when people first saw him going around the neighborhood pushing his improvised cart loaded with food, books, paper, pencils, and other things you would commonly see in a classroom. Why, Efren goes around the neighborhood pushing a mobile classroom to peddle the love for education. He left his well-paying job as a private school teacher to devote all of his time and effort to his Kariton Klasrum project while his neighbors mock him.To make matters worse, his parents and brother did not see the point in his earnestness to get out-of-school youths interested in going back to school. For a family s...
