The Peoples Democratic Party has been described as the only
political party in Nigeria with national appealing that gives direction to the
country democracy. The member representing Eket Federal Constituency in the
National Assembly, Hon. (Mrs) Owoidighe Ekpoattai made this assertion yesterday
when she visited Eket local government area which is one of the LGA in her
Constituency. Mrs Ekpoattai who was the former Council boss of Onna local
government area and former State Treasurer of the Peoples Democratic Party say
that her visit to Eket people was to identify with them during the festive
period and thank them for their support during her election to the Federal
House.
Mrs Ekpoattai who was accompanied by her husband, Chief Barr
Ime Ekpoattai and some political heavy weights from Onna stated that the
Peoples Democratic Party remain the only party that has direction in the
country. According to her, “PDP is the only party that has direction for
democracy. Other party does not have any direction. The party lost at the last
election was a conspiracy against the president Goodluck Jonathan but we
shouldn’t be despair as PDP will bounce back,” she submitted. She mentioned the
Treasury Single Account (TSA) as an idea of the Peoples Democratic Party to
close every leakages of the nation resources and urged the people to continue
to keep faith with PDP administration especially at the state level with Udom
Emmanuel on the saddle of leadership in the state.
Mrs Ekpoattai who is the Deputy Chairman, House Committee on
Women Affairs and Social Development say that she deem it necessary to visit
Eket at this time to share the Christmas celebration with them and to extend
her heartfelt appreciation for their support to her election. She reiterated
her commitment to give the Federal Constituency effective representation and
that she will leave a legacy that will stand the taste of time during her
tenure.
On the flood that affected Eket during the rainy season, she
informed the people that the National Assembly is working on addressing the
issue that those that were affected will receive some relief materials when the
National Assembly has completed their assignment. Mrs Ekpoattai expressed
displeasure that Akwa Ibom State has no representative at the National
Population Commission and promised that the issue will be addressed
accordingly. She urged the people of Eket and Akwa Ibom State to participate
fully whenever Population Census is carried out in the country.
Earlier, in his opening remark, the Chairman Transition
Committee of Eket local government area, Hon. Frank Archibong thanked Mrs.
Ekpoattai for finding time to visit the people of Eket for their support to her
emergence and expressed confidence in her representation. “You have made us
proud severally and you will continue to make us proud,” Frank said. The
Chairman used the occasion to appeal to Mrs Ekpoattai to open a Constituency
Office in Eket for easy correspondence with her and asked her to include the
youth of Eket in employment opportunities at the Federal level. That Eket
people will continue to support her and Udom Emmanuel administration always.
In her contribution, the South South Zonal Woman Leader of
PDP, Deaconess Elizabeth Essien thanked Mrs. Ekpoattai for her resolved to
visit home at this Christmas and expressed women solidarity to her mandate to
represent the people well. In the same vein, the Vice Chairman of PDP in Eket
Senatorial District, Hon. Kennedy Akwaowo expressed gratitude to Mrs Ekpoattai
for her visit and informed her that the PDP family is in support of her. Hon.
Kennedy asked her to take the message to Abuja that Akwa Ibom State remain a
PDP state and that they will rise up to defend the mandate they gave to Udom
Emmanuel with 100% votes.
The political leader of Eket, Chief Nduese Essien poured
encomium on Mrs Ekpoattai for her versatile role in the green chamber and urged
her to maintain the tempo. He call on the people of Eket Senatorial District
and Akwa Ibom State not to succumb to the antics of APC to use the judiciary to
subvert justice at the Tribunal and Court of Appeal. He expressed confidence
that the Supreme Court will do justice to the case and urge the people to rise
and defend their mandate. Also, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Dominic Ukpong
also speak in support of Mrs Ekpoattai and Udom Emmanuel as asset to the people
of the Eket and informed them that the governor have good plans for the area
hence the need to give him 100% support.
One of the founding members of the party, Hon. Ekanem Willie
in his contribution restated his membership of the party in line with the
rebranding program at the national level and urge party leaders at the state
and local government level to be accommodating. The best Unit in Eket at the
last general election with 1371 votes received N300,000 Award while the second
position goes to Unit 7 in Urban 3 with N200,000 and Unit 10, Urban 4 with
N100,000 respectively. The event was attended by party leaders, women, youth
among whom were Hon. Pat Ifon, Hon. Godwin David, Hon. Emmanuel Mbong, Rt. Hon. Vincent George,
Chief Usoro Udontia, Rt. Hon. Jack Udota, Hon. Victor Edon, and others.
