FORMER NDDC BOSS COMMISSIONED WATER PROJECT AT ATABONG EKET

Smiles came to the faces of the people of Atabong Village in Eket local government Area of Akwa Ibom State as their prayer for a portable water was finally answered. The Water Project which is the private initiative of the immediate past Managing Director of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Sir Bassey Dan Abia Snr. was today commissioned at Atabong Village to the admiration of all.

In his welcome address, the Village Head of Atabong, Chief Etetim Ekanem thanked Sir Dan Abia for his contribution toward community development and appreciate him for remembering the people of Atabong by citing one of the water project in their area. He therefore pray God to continue to bless him and give him long life.

The facilitator of the Water Project and President of Atabong Youth Association, Mr. Imo Bassey Jacob in his address thanked Sir Bassey Abia Snr. for being a man of the people. He commended him for thinking positively about Atabong people by initiating the Water Project which was a serious problem of the community. Mr. Imo stated that the water project has served about 50,000 people around the area and pray God to reward his show of love.

The women of Atabong Village who came out in groups poured encomium on Sir Bassey Dan Abia Snr for being their saviour in times of need. The women thanked him for the water project and like Oliver Twist asked him to help the community with a transformer to boost power supply in the area.

Meanwhile, a Meritorious Award of Outstanding Performance was presented to Sir Dan Abia Snr for his outstanding acxhievements during his years in office as MD of NDDC. Also, pupils of Viviana Nursery School, Atabong, Eket made a presentation to Sir Abia as a winner who will continue to win and not losing.

Responding, Sir Dan Abia Snr thanked the people of Atabong Village for showing appreciation for the little he does and promised them to do more. He stated that it is very rare for one to leave office and being accorded such a reception. Sir Abia specifically thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for the confidence he has in him to lead NDDC despite all the several petitions against him. He maintained that NDDC position is a political appointment that will come and go but what is permanent is personal relationship. He thanked the Youth President of Atabong, Mr. Imo Bassey for pushing him to initiate the project and promised to do more especially in the area of women empowerment. He advised them to form cooperative society for easy facilitation of the empowerment package.

The former NDDC Boss finally commissioned the Water Project and was assisted by the Village Head of Atabong and President, Atabong Youth Association. The former MD of NDDC was accompanied by Member representing Ibeno/Esit Eket in the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Usoro Akpanusoh, President, Niger Delta Youth Movement, Comrade Joe Jackson, former Chairman of Esit Eket, Pastor Isangidighe and other dignitaries.
