PRESIDENT BUHARI: TRANSPARENCY IN YOUR FIGHT AGAINST CORRUPTION IS THE WAY TO GO

By Comrade Princewill Onyekachi

The first thing any leadership has to do is to restore the confidence of the people. President Muhammadu Buhari's administration has not given the people confidence that the leadership has the capacity to respond to their needs.

The rate of impunity and terror that Nigerians are witnessing in President Buhari's administration is an insult to the moral sensibilities of Nigerians.

It beats my imagination that despite call by well meaning Nigerians for President Muhammadu Buhari to personally inform Nigerians all that he knows on the $300,000 compensation that he allegedly collected from Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd), the former National Security Adviser, President Buhari deliberately ingore that call. President Buhari and the Econonic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, did not indicate any interest in also investigating the claims.

Also ignored by the Mr President and the EFCC were the issues regarding 5 bullet proof jeeps he (Buhari) benefited from the alleged diversion of Arms budget by Dasuki valued over N500 million.

The belief is now being shared by many the President Buhari's refusal to personally inform Nigerians all that he knows on $300,000 and the 5 bullet proof jeeps valued over N500 million shows he (Buhari) is scared and afraid of his own shadow. One do wonder why Mr President (the pot) choose to call kettle black, It is now clear that Mr Buhari does not have courage to really go to the bottom of the issue that is of utmost concern to Nigerians which is corruption, why can President Buhari open the Halliburton scandal if Mr President really want to fight corruption, as Nigerians, we are interested in this case.

I thought that with the President Muhammadu Buhari change mantra, the era of "hunt down the opposition" would become history in Nigeria. Unfortunately, the reverse is the case as seen from the arrest of Chief Olisa Metuh, the National Publicity Secretary of the "Opposition party" the Peopels Democratic Party, PDP, by the EFCC.

Our President is clearly not living by his oath to protect the Constitution. The pro-domocracy activists that fight late Sani Abacha to a standstill must rise up and confront Mr Buhari, otherwise, things will get out of hands. We must not allow this brand new dictatorship to mature. It is not about whether the accused person is from ruling or opposition party but a fight for the rule of law and the constitution of our country. President Buhari and his EFCC should charge any accused persons to court and equally respect the court orders. Mr. President cannot be a President and at the same time a Judge. Let the court alone determine.

God Bless Nigeria...
