The people of Akwa Ibom State especially the youth and students were yesterday inspired by Ubong King at the Strategic Success Empowerment Summit held in Uyo, the capital of the state. Mr. King who is the CEO of Protection Plus Services, a maritime security outfit began his presentation with a brief history of his family background and past antecedents. He took participants at the Summit to memory lane how he was written-off by friends and family members. He specifically mentioned how he was rejected at the University of Lagos to pursue his course of choice because he did poorly in English Language. "I was finally admitted at University of Calabar (UNICAL) after failing JAMB severally and later graduated with a 3rd Class," he said.
Mr. King narrated how he was serving as a security guard at Power City International, Uyo in Akwa Ibom State which was the starting point of his career in Security business. He stated that he is passionate about Akwa Ibom State, the land of his birth and want to see young people growing their businesses and detach away from their comfort zone.
"If there is a solution for Nigeria, it is youth empowerment. The problem with Africa, Nigeria and Akwa Ibom State is free food. Until we stop eating borrowed food, we are going nowhere," he stated. Mr. King challenged young people to be business-conscious and not waiting for government to do everything as that will be day-dreaming. "When you wake up, start running. Don't wait for government. Start it yourself."
He urged Akwa Ibom youth to wake up from their slumber of being dependent and start running their own business to lived fulfilled life. He liken those who are dependent to a vulture that wait for its prey to be weak and dead before consumption while the eagle kills its own prey to eat it, stated that the difference between both birds is appetite. "Until you are hungry, you won't get angry and until you are angry, you won't change your situation. You don't enter your future by talking, you enter it by acting," he stated. King submitted that he is very passionate about Akwa Ibom State and proud to be a proud son of the state, commending the governor, Deacon Udom Emmanuel with the "Dakkada" philosophy as a clarion call to reawakening, enjoining Akwa Ibom people to rise up and reclaim the lost glory of the state.
In his presentation on Investment Opportunities in the Oil and Gas, Pastor Dave Wills who is working with the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) highlighted the numerous investment opportunities in the downstream and upstream sector of the Nigeria petroleum industry. He emphasized that for one to operate business in the Oil and Gas sector that one must obtain a DPR Permit for effective and smooth running of business in the sector. Pastor Wills urged Akwa Ibom people and the youth to avail themselves of the numerous opportunities in the Oil and Gas as many young people are making millions through genuine ways. He directed those who are interested to do business in the downstream and upstream sector to lon into the website of the Department of Petroleum Resources at www.dpr.gov.ng and follow the instruction accordingly.
Another presentation from Pastor Iddy James charged the youth to be focus so as to achieve their goals in life and avoid unnecessary distraction. "Your daily habit will eventually become who you are. Deal with habit that will distract you from your vision," he stated.
During the Questions and Answers Session, Mr. Ubong King and Pastor Dave Wills encouraged young people to study the business of their interest, research on successful businesses, spy what they do, package their businesses and be consistent in what business venture that they embark on. Ubong King recommended four books for participants to read: Rich Dad, Poor Dad, Cash Flow Quadrant, Penetrating the Market, a book written by him and the Bible.
Earlier, the State Overseer of Charismatic Renewal Ministries Inc. Uyo, Pastor Tony Mfon in his welcome address said that the Summit is very strategic for Akwa Ibom people and thanked the Guest Speaker, Ubong King for honouring their invitation despite his tight schedule. He stated that as a body of Christ, the church deem it necessary to organize the Summit to impact positively on the lives of the people and will continue in that direction. He expressed appreciation to all the Speakers and all those who has help to facilitate the event, saying that Charismatic Renewal Ministries will continue to edify the body of Christ through impactful programmes that will improve the life of the citizenry especially in Akwa Ibom State.
The Summit was attended by church leaders, business people, Mrs Uuyime Iddy-King, the wife of Mr. Ubong King, students of University of Uyo lead by their leader and NANS Chairman in the state, Comrade Akwaowo Clifford Ukpong and others.
