WORKS COMMISSIONER VISITS ODIO COMMUNITY

Smiles came to the faces of Odio people today as the Hon. Commissioner for Works in Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Ephraim Inyang visit the area. The Commissioner visit was a fulfillment of the promise he made with the people of Odio during the electioneering campaign.

In his welcome speech, the former Head of Service and Chairman, Civil Service Commission, Elder Sunny I. Akpadiaha thanked the Honourable Commissioner and his entourage for finding time to visit Odio people despite their busy schedule. Elder Akpadiaha called the visit historic as no government officials has ever visited the community except during the period that they canvass for votes, stating that the people of Odio voted massively for Udom Emmanuel and will continue to support him to succeed as the governor of Akwa Ibom State.

In his remark, the Transition Chairman of Eket LGA and Chairman, ALGON in the state, Hon. Frank Archibong said that Odio community are good people and he will continue to visit the place as a son of the community. He reiterated government effort in development projects in the state and urged the people of Odio to stand with Udom Emmanuel to deliver on his mandate, that the governor do not play politics with development.

Speaking on behalf of Odio Community, the Village Head, Chief Samuel Charles Ekaso showered encomium on the Hon. Commissioner for keeping to his promise to visit Odio community as the first government officials that is coming to the community on development issue rather than soliciting for votes. Chief Ekaso expressed disappointment on the pains the people of the community has been going through for years, stating that Odio have been totally neglected by previous administration. He said that with the visit of the Hon. Commissioner for Works, there is hope for Odio people and that they will continue to support Udom administration to succeed. He stated that the people has initiated many community projects through their effort and urged government to give them the necessary support to better the lots of the people.

In her contribution, the PDP Chapter Woman Leader in Eket, Hon. Emem Francis expressed appreciation to the Hon. Commissioner for visiting Odio community as such has never happened before. She pleaded the government of Udom Emmanuel to think about the women, elders and youth of Odio as they were at the field working during the election for the governor and will continue to work for PDP in the next coming election. The Chapter Chairman of PDP, Obong Iwaad Emman Mbong said that Odio is PDP and will continue to be PDP.

Responding, the Hon. Commissioner for Works, Mr. Ephraim Inyang thanked the people of Odio for their wisdom and maturity in handling community issue. He encouraged them to continue to support Udom Emmanuel administration as the governor have the people of the area in mind. He reminded the people that Udom father, Mr. Emmanuel Nkanga once served in Odio community as a teacher and that relationship must be maintained. Mr. Inyang commended the people for their patience and promised that within a month, VKS Construction Company will relocate their equipment to the area to commence construction of NDON EYO-IKOT AKPATEK-IKWE-ODIO ROAD linking the bank of Qua Iboe River at Okoroutip.

Mr. Inyang strongly appeal to the people of Onna, Eket, Esit Eket and Ibeno to unite together for development to be sited in the area as government cannot exclude them in their programs. He called on the youth to embrace peace and dialogue in resolving any issue in the community as government will not site any meaningful project where there is threat to peace.

Accompanied him in the visit was the Transition Chairman of Eket, Ibeno, Onna, and Mkpat Enin. SSA to the Governor on Petroleum, Barr Essien Esema, SA on Inter Ministerial Direct Labour Project, Barr. Ini Ikott, Permanent Secretary UBE, Mr. Ezekiel Umoh, PDP Chapter Chairman and Obong Iwaad Emman Mbong. Others are immediate past Chairman of Ibeno LGA, Rt. Hon. Henry Ekpe Nko, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works.

Also in attendance were Chapter Woman Leader, Hon Emem Francis, Supervisor in Eket Council, Hon. Sylvester Frank, Party Leaders, Chiefs, Women and youth.
