I’m ready to work with Wike –Dakuku January 29, 2016   Defeated governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Honourable Dakuku Peterside, has indicated his willingness to work with Governor Nyesom Wike to move the state forward. He made this known, on Thursday, while reacting to the Supreme Court judgment, on Thursday, which upheld the victory of Wike in the governorship election held in the state on April 11, 2015. Governor Wike, reacting to the court’s decision, on Wednesday, had praised Dakuku for approaching the judiciary to seek redress over the outcome of the election, rather than going violent. The governor also extended an olive branch to his opponent and the opposition in the state, asking the APC candidate to join hand with him in the task of moving the state forward. TEXT BY FORMER PRESIDENT OF NIGERIA, GOODLUCK JONATHAN AT GENEVA

Nigeria’s former President, Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday addressed the global community in Geneva, Switzerland at a press conference hosted by the Geneva Press Club. Below is the full text of the speech focused on Security, Education and Development in Africa exclusively obtained by SIGNAL. Protocols Ladies and Gentlemen of the press, I thank you for coming to hear me speak on the twin issues of education and security. Though this event is billed as a press conference on a Better Security and Education for West Africa, for the sake of time, I will focus on my experience in government which gave me a practical demonstration of how education impacts on security. I will thereafter touch on my post presidential focus which is on advancing democracy and good governance in Africa and increasing access to opportunity for wealth generation in Africa. If you peruse the official UNESCO literacy rates by country, what you will find is that all of the top ten most l

HUMAN RIGHTS ACTIVISTS CONDEMNS INCREASING EXTRA JUDICIAL KILLINGS IN ABA

An Abia State Based Human Rights Activists under the Aegis of Abia Human Rights Agenda numbering Over Fifty Organizations has condemned the increasing trend of extra judicial killings in Aba. Addressing newsmen in Aba, the group describe the Acts as barbaric, wicked and the apex of Human Rights Violations by the State actors, asserting that the murder of unarmed citizens is a heinous crime against God and Humanity. Why have we swept many cases of extra judicial killings by armed security operatives under the filthy carpets of national impunity? The extra legal executions by soldiers and police are becoming too difficult to document because these gruesome killings happened almost on monthly basis in Aba, Abia State. What is the institutional response of the Nigerian military and police hierarchy to surely put an end to this impunity which has graphically depicted the institution of the Nigerian Military and police as being backward, primitive and savagery?  What is the synergy between

THE STAND OF ORON YOUTHS ON THE APPOINTMENT OF MANAGING DIRECTOR FOR NDDC

In the spirit of the season, we wish the government and the good people of Nigeria a happy and truly prosperous new year. We pray for peace and security to promote the progress of the nation. However, we also hasten to acknowlege that peace that is only defined by the absence of conflicts usually does not last. Rather, peace that is grounded in social justice tends to stand the test of time. The youths of Oron in Akwa Ibom State use this opportunity to draw the attention of well-meaning Nigerias to the plight of our community as an oil-producing community. Let it not be said that we are only now awakening to a sense of wrong and exclusion because of the NDDC appointment. We had extensively documented our historic marginalization in 2013 and 2014 when it was the turn of Oron to produce the Governor after the other larger groups, the Ibibio and the Annang, had had their turns, Of course, the above mentioned two groups ganged up and denied Oron, the third largest, the
