CALLS FOR SENATE SCRAPING, AN ACT OF HYPOCRISY

April 21, 2016 Press Statement CALLS FOR SENATE SCRAPING, AN ACT OF HYPOCRISY My attention has been drawn to a recent statement credited to the National Leader of APC, Sen. Bola Ahmed Tinubu asking for the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to be scrap out of the National Assembly. This call is not only laughable but an act of hypocrisy by the APC Leader trying to divert the attention of Nigerians from the real issue of governance which his party is still experimenting after 10 months in office. For the benefit of uninformed Nigerians who quickly buy-in to anything dish out to them by politicians without asking questions, it is worthy to state here categorically that Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu has served at the same chamber as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. As at today, his wife, Distinguished Senator Oluremi Bola Tinubu is still serving her second term in office as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria representing the good peopl

EVANS WADONGO: YOUNG KENYAN INNOVATOR

Evans Wadongo – Young Kenyan Innovator Evans Wadongo is a hero to his people in Nairobi, Kenya. He serves as their light—literally and figuratively. In this age of information technology, it’s hard to believe that some still live without electricity. For Evans who grew up without that privilege, kerosene lamps became his lifeline. When he’s old enough to understand kerosene’s adverse effect, this promising engineer created what is now called “Good Light” or MwangaBora. More than lighting up a house, Evans lit up dreams of kids and parents through his Use Solar, Save Lives initiative made possible by Sustainable Development for All-Kenya. Biography of Evans Wadongo   Evans grew up sharing a kerosene lamp with four brothers. There were times he had to give way to them and go to school without completing his homework. Kenyan schools adapt corporal punishment and attending school without completing homework could mean getting hit by the teacher’s good old stic

OPEN LEETER FROM DELE MOMODU TO SENATE PRESIDENT, BUKOLA SARAKI

My candid letter to the Senate President, by Dele Momodu April 16, 2016 Your Excellency, I’m convinced the time has come to write you this letter despite the fact that I have some measure of access to you. I decided to do this in order to tackle the mischief makers who believe I’m your very close friend and as such must be a rabid supporter of yours. I have been accused of all sorts of garbage including being paid heavy sums of money from your bottomless pocket. I’m aware that most of these guys can never believe that anyone could stand up for principle without pecuniary gains. But before I go into the meat of this letter, I need to state my background briefly as I’m sure you don’t even know me well enough to understand and appreciate my socio-political trajectory. I have read all sorts about you and I and it is necessary sometimes to put the records straight for the sake of doubting Thomases who can

OPEN AND TRANSPARENT PARLIAMENT

If there is one arm of government that I am passionate about it is the legislature. The simple reason is that they make laws that govern society. But the pertinent questions are: HOW TRANSPARENT IS OUR LEGISLATURE? DO THEY CONSIDER CITIZENS PARTICIPATION IN THE LAWS THAT THEY MAKE FOR THE COUNTRY AND STATES? WHAT IS THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE LEGISLATURE, MEDIA, CIVIL SOCIETY ORGANIZATIONS AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC? WHERE ARE OUR LAWS DOMICILED IN ELECTRONIC FORMATS? If there is no existing cordial relationship among the listed stakeholders in the business of legislation, then there is room for suspicion and that is more reason you have platforms like "LETS OCCUPY THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY." BELOW ARE EXPECTED FROM THE LEGISLATURE TO BUILD CONFIDENCE WITH THE PEOPLE. Parliament shall adopt policies that ensure proactive publication of parliamentary information, and shall review these policies periodically to take advantage of evolving good practices. Par

BUDGET: PRIMARY DUTY OF THE EXECUTIVE AND ULTIMATE POWER OF THE PARLIAMENT

BUDGET: PRIMARY DUTY OF THE EXECUTIVE AND ULTIMATE POWER OF THE PARLIAMENT The 2016 Budget, the first to be crafted by this administration, has assumed notoriety for quite avoidable and unnecessary reasons. A government budget is primarily the responsibility of the Executive, subject to the ultimate power of the purse in the Parliament. The Executive, through its Budget Office, in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance for fiscal inputs, is believed to have collated all the proposals from the Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) into the Budget Estimates that were scrutinised and approved at an enlarged Executive Council Meeting with the Permanent Secretaries and relevant technocrats in attendance. This is where the ministerial proposals in the Budget Estimates were expectedly examined, reviewed and finalised in accordance with the priorities of Government. Upon conclusion of its work on detailed estimates of the Budget at the Cabinet Meeting,

WHO IS ABDULMUMIN JIBRIN?

WHO IS ABDULMUMIN JIBRIN? Abdulmumin Jibrin is the member of the House of Reps, representing Bebeji/Kiru Federal Constituency in Kano state. He is also the Chairman of Budget Appropriation Committee at the House of Reps. This is where pleasant story about this arrogant imposter ends. On 18/10/2011, a Federal High Court, presided by Justice Marcel Awokulehin, sitting in Lafia, Nasarawa State, ordered the former governor of the state, Aliyu Akwe Doma and eight other co-conspirators accused by the EFCC, to be remanded in custody. The former governor and his eight co-conspirators were charged for laundering stolen Nasarawa state funds totaling over N15 billion. The governor was arraigned along with Senator John Dangoyi, Abdulmumin Jibrin, Timothy Anthony Anjide, Dauda Egwa, Suleiman Ibrahim, Broworks Ltd and Green Forest Investment Limited. Money laundering is a very serious offence, contrary to Section 14(1)(a) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition
