INACCESSIBILITY OF THE PEOPLES REPRESENTATIVES.

By Ubong Ekoi Public Service entails rendering service to the public. This means that A Leader is meant to serve the people he represents. That's why the former Governor of Niger state once address himself as Chief Servant of the State. This means that he is a SERVANT to the people, Yes PRESIDENT OBAMA is the quintessential SERVANT of the people of the United States, A True Leader. If a leader, be it by appointment or popular votes becomes i naccessible; let's say refuses to pick up calls, or refuses to attend town hall meetings or even instructs sternly that he doesn't want to see anyone; those he is suppose to represent because his excuse is that there is too much pressure, there is too much irrelevant calls!!! The big Question is what is such a leader doing in public service? In the Nigerian context, I understand that the complains of some of the Leaders is that some YOUTHS call them to beg for money or to ask for certain kind of favors like aski

NAMING A DOG "BUHARI", POLICE IMPUNITY AND THE LAW

By Inibehe Effiong I have taken pains to elucidate on the issue under consideration which is as simple as ABC. It is not because there are no serious and pressing legal controversies in the country requiring my intervention, but to basically portray the reckless, arbitrary and intolerable abuse of law enforcement powers by the police. This matter calls to question the level of institutional sanity in the Nigeria Police Force. A 30-year-old trader, Mr. Joe Fortemose Chinakwe, of No 10, Omikunle Street, Sango-Ota, Ogun State was arrested last Saturday and incarcerated for about three days by the police for naming his pet dog "Buhari". The arrest and detention followed a complaint by an unnamed Mallam, who is said to be an alien from Niger Republic. Confirming the arrest to Vanguard Newspaper, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Ogun State, ASP Abimbola Oyeyemi had this to say: "I have made enquiries. The man bought a dog and inscribed Buhari

AKS INDUSTRIALISATION PROGRAM: WHY GOV UDOM WOULD SUCCEED - ABANG

By James Abang It was a special Monday morning for the Mkpa’s family. Mr. Uwe Mkpa was due to receive his gratuity that faithful day. He gathered every member of his nuclear family to seek their opinion on what to do with the money. His first son suggested the money should be used to buy a used truck and engage it on quarry business at Akamkpa, Cross River State but others said no, giving various reasons including insincerity of truck drivers. Other suggestions were made until his 3rd son, aged 19 made the ultimate suggestion. He suggested the money be invested on “Otongtong”. Don’t consult your dictionary except you have an Oro version. Otongtong is the nick name for heavy duty musical set. It was unanimously agreed that a set be bought to be put up for hiring for weddings, burials and other ceremonies. The family therefore settled for otongtong business. It should be noted however, that every component of the musical set that was bought was state of the arts – fro
