INACCESSIBILITY OF THE PEOPLES REPRESENTATIVES.

By Ubong Ekoi

Public Service entails rendering service to the public. This means that A Leader is meant to serve the people he represents. That's why the former Governor of Niger state once address himself as Chief Servant of the State. This means that he is a SERVANT to the people, Yes PRESIDENT OBAMA is the quintessential SERVANT of the people of the United States, A True Leader.

If a leader, be it by appointment or popular votes becomes inaccessible; let's say refuses to pick up calls, or refuses to attend town hall meetings or even instructs sternly that he doesn't want to see anyone; those he is suppose to represent because his excuse is that there is too much pressure, there is too much irrelevant calls!!! The big Question is what is such a leader doing in public service?

In the Nigerian context, I understand that the complains of some of the Leaders is that some YOUTHS call them to beg for money or to ask for certain kind of favors like asking for money to wed or money to pay for house rents... The many reasons why they the leaders have become inaccessible.. As unfortunate as this situation maybe on the part of some YOUTHS of which it is my sincere hope that every young man and woman in Nigeria should be able to get a descent job so as to enjoy the dignity of paying their bills and living a happy life but still, the question is as a Leader, in the course of campaigns you have made so many promises to this same youths you are complaining that they are are lazy and irresponsible, promising them all sorts of jobs, soft contracts, recommendations to any company of their choice...

My question is where are the jobs you promised? Besides, not all youths are irresponsible and I have seen a lot of youths with great and fantastic ideas, another question is that why can't these crop of responsible youths access you the leaders?

You are inaccessible, you can't provide jobs you can't give recommendations, you can't guarantee young people for whatever business they indicate interest in, you can't provide jobs for our young women but you will readily ask for favors in kind once they ask you for recommendations for a job. Some leaders even sit on positions that are supposed to be occupied by their sons and daughters and yet you complain bitterly how lazy and irresponsible some of these youths are... Worst still, as a Public servant you can not be reached or you are unavailable just like what we normally hear on our phones.. But you will be readily available also when you have a need to use this same youths you call cultists, irresponsible, lazy to perpetuate evil!!

If as a public servant, a leader, you cannot be accessible by the people you are suppose to represent, kindly resign and let others who have the capacity and the understanding and love to accommodate the duty and workload that comes along with an office to occupy such an office.

Stay Blessed.

AKWA IBOM CHILD RIGHTS LAW

The Akwa Ibom State Child Rights Law The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Obong Godswill Akpabio, on 5th December, 2008 signed the child rights act into law to protect the growth of perceptual, emotional, intellectual, and behavioural capabilities and functioning during childhood of Akwa Ibom children under 16 years. The law protects the Akwa Ibom child from birth to adolescence and up to 16 years such that the child is afforded the necessary protection and assistance so that it can fully assume its responsibilities within the community.
