The youth of Eket Federal Constituency under the aegis of Host Community Youth Movement meet at Esit Eket and resolved to fight for the right of the people of the area without fear or favour. The youth group assembled at Town Hall in Ekpene Obo to as part of their sensitization activities to educate the youth of the four local government area on the need to arise and demand for what belong to them.
Speakers after speakers at the meeting reiterated the need for all concerned citizens of the area to come out to lend their voices to the demand of the people from ExxonMobil, State and Federal Government, and other oil servicing companies operating in the area. They unanimously resolved that ExxonMobil must relocate their headquarter to Akwa Ibom State as taxes and employment opportunities are denied the people of the area. Another issue that was raised is the relocation of Ibeno Jetty which the youth have vowed that they will not compromised untill their demands are met.
The Speaker of the group, Comrade Samuel Udoh presented a 17 point Position Paper which include construction of new roads and maintenance of old ones in the four LGAs, building of a federal institution in the area, infrastructural development, human capacity development, employment of citizens, engagement of citizens of the area in contract execution, implementation of Memorandum of Understanding and local content policy, IMPLEMENTATION OF Supreme Court judgement on Mobil Spy Police, etc to form part of the communique that will be sent to ExxonMobil, State and Federal Government and relevant authorities in no distant time. The youth warned saboteurs to stay off the group as any attempt to lobby their position will be strongly resisted. They maintained that they will continue to use dialogue to engage the relevant stakeholders in pressing forward their demands until the window of dialogue is exhausted which they will have no other option than to adopt a different approach.
