BEING
TEXT OF THE GOODWILL MESSAGE PRESENTED BY THE SPEAKER, AKWA IBOM STATE
HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY, THE RT. HON. ONOFIOK LUKE TO AKWA IBOM PEOPLE ON THE
29TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE STATE CREATION.
On behalf of myself and the distinguished members of this hallowed chambers, I extend our warmest congratulations to members of the state Executive council led by His Excellency, Deacon Udom Gabriel Emmanuel, members of the state judicial arm of government and indeed, every Akwa Ibom person, young and old, as our dear state clocks 29 years since creation.
In all honesty, our journey since 1987 has not been one without thorns. We have fought many battles to survive economic and political scheming in the country that God has put us. But as a state whose founding was inspired by patriotism, fervency, loyalty, faith, we today proudly raise our banner of victory to the glory of the Almighty God, our very fortress.
On a day like this, we must reflect on the need to build on the faith which was sown by our founding fathers into the very foundation of our statehood. We must reflect on their sacrifices, their vision, and the very bond of brotherhood which inspired their success. Our generation must serve as a model to upcoming generations who will seek something positive that we left behind, something on which they could consolidate. We must answer to the call of unity, and leave behind hate and virulent courses. We must build on our history of resilience and hard work, diligence and fair play, as we look to building an Akwa Ibom state where every man and woman, children and visitors will be proud to associate with.
Let me use this opportunity also to particularly call on the youths to step up to the challenge of setting a new agenda that will propel our state to greatness. We have fared well in the last 29 years, but there is yet enormous room to for us to enlarge our coasts, swell our barns, and multiply our yields. We must not lose faith in our collective ability to make Akwa Ibom Africa’s next destination.
As a legislature, we are determined not to rest on our oars as we try to solidify our relationship with the executive and judiciary arms of government. This is key in our agenda to consolidate on our present contributions towards the full actualization of the sustainable development agenda of the present administration. We assure our constituents of our unwavering commitment to superior delivery in our lawmaking, oversight and representation mandates.
I wish you a happy anniversary and God’s blessings.
